  1. I must disagree with this point. In a story ballet it is customary for those in the background to act naturally. They are often instructed to move about, pretend to talk with others, etc. In saying this though, their movemnts should enhance the overall feel of the main action, not distract from it. I have the Romeo and Juliet DVD to which you refer, and I have not found the background players to be distracting.
  2. There was an article in The Denver Post yesterday about that discussed the number of Colorado Ballet's Sleeping Beauty performances. Here's the Link: Colorado Ballet Article
  3. Peter and the Wolf DVD (Royal Ballet School)
  4. Here's the webpage link, according to Dance Spirit Magazine: Varna Unfortunately, I can't get it to work. Perhaps you'll have better luck.
  5. In today's Links thread there is more on this situation. Sounds a bit messy.
  6. I just noticed on the Colorado Ballet website that Jocelyn Labsan is listed as "Interim Artistic Director". What happened to Martin Fredmann? He's listed under the Board of Trustees, but his name no longer appears in the staff directory, nor under "Artistic Staff".

  8. We've had several students from our home studio (Colorado) attend NBS. Some have auditioned in person in Toronto, and some have sent videotapes in. NBS certainly does produce lovely dancers!
  9. I'm sorry to hear about Alessandra's injury...hope she'll be well soon. Can you tell me how this affects the cast for Sat. evening, July 16? We have tickets and were really looking forward to seeing Julie Kent. If Ms. Kent dances on July 15, would she still dance on July 16?
  10. ABT's website says that last Saturday's matinee was also the first time for Stella Abrera to dance the part of Gulnare. Can anyone tell me how she did?
  11. Herman, Thank you for providing Ms Gillot's name to us. She is indeed lovely, and now that we know her name, we can look for her in other ballets.
  12. I have the POB version and just love the dancer who performs the Lilac Fairy variation in the prologue. Can someone give me her name? Thanks.
  13. I attended Skate America that year, and as I recall, she TRIED to land the quadruple salchow in competition, but did not. As far as "not having time to train", I find that hard to swallow. Competitive skaters train hour after hour nearly every day of the week. When you travel to your competition site, there is always an opportunity to practice, especially when you are at the elite level. When Sasha was here in 2001 for Skate America, she was featured in our local newspaper practicing at several ice rinks in town.
  14. Count me as another one who is anxiously waiting to see this movie. :hyper: I did hear someone hint in an interview last week, that there may be a prequel in the works (i.e.: "The Hobbit"). Has anyone else heard anything about this?

    Alicia Alonso

The ARTS channel (shown on cable) is currently showing the Alicia Alonso video of the Black Swan. Her pirouettes and her balance are truly incredible! If you haven't seen her dance before, tune into ARTS and try to catch the video when it airs. She was amazing!
  16. I haven't seen that one, Mme. Hermine. Do you know if it is available on video?
  17. Very funny episode. By the way, wasn't Lucy actually a dancer in real life (before becoming a star)?
  18. We've been looking at video clips of Nina Ananiashvili lately. The way she uses her arms in "The Dying Swan" is amazing!
