  1. California, thank you for the seating advice. I'd like to make the trip too to see Sleeping Beauty on the weekend. Although, their Sat eve times are different on the website (5pm) vs. the casting sheet (7pm). I guess I'll have to call them to confirm. I'd like to see that one to see Baca. Their Aurora on their website looks an awful lot like Gillian Murphy (face and upper body only).
  2. Casting is out now: http://paballet.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Sleeping-Beauty-playbill-FNL.pdf
  3. Yep. But, Lane was firmly stuck in soloist purgatory then so I didn't think much of it. Brandt is on an upward trajectory it seems. Still, I'm on the fence too about what if anything this means and I'm not familiar with this grant. Someone commented on Instagram that the evening was terrific, so maybe this was just for a special event of some sort. But, I can't help but wonder if we'll see her do this next spring.
  4. So this is interesting. Skylar Brandt and Aran Bell have been rehearsing R&J, coached by Alessandra Ferri and Julio Bocco, courtesy of a foundation grant and the JKO School. Maybe this is just a study opportunity, but since they're doing R&J next Spring, does this mean that Brandt is also doing Juliet? If so, why isn't she rehearsing with her Romeo? There's no way they'd have Bell, a corps dancer who hasn't even done any soloist roles, do Romeo. He's been doing a lot of rehearsing with Brandt and Lane lately (see their Instagrams) which just looks like a great rehearsal opp. With Lane they were doing SL, but that was to help her prepare for her perf with the Kremlin Ballet tonight. But, Ferri/Bocca? Pulling out the big guns only to rehearse?
  5. Wow, those two videos are stupendous! Especially of Peck. I can't imagine what that would have been like in person.
  6. Same here. I was hoping for Brandt with Scott or Shayer. If Cirio was in town, he'd be my first choice.
  7. This is now cast with Boylston and Lendorf.

Wow, she looks gorgeous! What a dress. And, those two little boys are cute as pie.
  9. That's pretty typical behavior for any AD actually. Especially, if they need to give notes that pertain to the second or third act since they have little time before intermission ends. Even if it's after the ballet ends, an AD will want to share notes with the dancers asap, while everything is still fresh in everyone's minds, and so everyone can get home before 2am.
  10. It's showing in cinemas around the country: https://www.restlesscreaturefilm.com/screenings-1/
  11. I'm really surprised it was R&J. I don't see Teuscher as Juliet at all. Hopefully, Lane will also get that role. I'd much rather see Teuscher debuting in Bayadere.
  12. In Devon Teuscher's Instagram today, she writes about an open rehearsal tonight at City Center called "Coaching Principal Roles" for "an exciting upcoming principal role this year". I wonder if she's alluding to La Bayadere? https://www.instagram.com/devon.teusch/?hl=en
  13. I don't think you have to worry. The company rarely has guest artists in the fall and none have been announced. I'm hoping it'll be a debut cast instead of going to one of the two scheduled casts (nothing against them, I just want to see another couple get the chance, preferably two up-and-comers).
  14. Yes! You make a wonderful point. I'm happy for her too!
  15. Yep. I'm hoping that'll be a debut cast.
  16. Wow. I doubt that's a glitch. I'm surprised it was removed now, but why postpone the inevitable I guess.
  17. No, not him. I wonder if I'm really thinking of Edward Stierle from the Joffrey. Stierle was 23, a rising star, and the Joffrey was still based in NYC at the time (1991), so maybe that's why I was thinking it was a dancer with NYCB. I saw him dance and he was incredible. http://www.nytimes.com/1991/03/09/obituaries/edward-stierle-23-a-leading-dancer-with-joffrey-ballet.html?mcubz=3
  18. Oh, that is so sad. Hopefully, someone (or a bunch of someones) with deep pockets comes forward to help with the rehabilitation.
  19. There are six new apprentices now listed on their site, all from the Studio Company and few of them trained at their school. There was one apprentice left before this new batch, I don't recall her name, but I don't see her listed in the corps so she must have left. http://www.abt.org/dancers/default.asp?section=apprentice
  20. I left off Cornejo. So, that makes three full-time / year-round male principals. Still.
  21. Since it says that he's joining EN for the Autumn/Winter season, I wonder how long of a commitment that really is. Looking at Cirio's Instagram, he's currently in London presumably already rehearsing. Is he only doing their MacMillan celebration in Oct? Or joining any of their tours in Nov/Dec and/or performing into January? ENB's website doesn't elaborate. He's not cast for the lead in ABT's Nutcracker (but, he hasn't been in the past). ABT is touring from the end of January through all of February and then to Asia for part of March. Wondering if he'll join only part of that. Since they're touring Whipped Cream, that could open up opportunities for another short dancer to take on the Boy (I'm thinking Aaron Scott and/or Gabe Shayer). They should add a fourth Boy anyway since Cornejo is frequently out with injuries and we don't really know Simkin's full involvement going forward either. Edited to add: with Hallberg, Bolle, Lendorf, Gomes, Cirio and now Simkin all committed to other companies and projects that take them away from ABT's performing schedule, that only leaves Stearns and Whiteside as their full-time / year-round male principals. Oi!
  22. Copeland gets two performances minimum of everything she's in (that's been the status quo for two years at least). I'm expecting to see Lane get a Juliet and I'd also like to see Trenary get one as well. So, if there's the usual 8 shows and Copeland gets two (and Seo usually gets two Juliets as well), then out of the ones already doing the role (Murphy, Seo, Boylston, Copeland), there's room for 2 debuts. I personally don't see Abrera, Teuscher or Shevchenko as Juliet. For O/O, if there's 8 shows (and I can't imagine there would be any less), Boylston, Copeland x 2, Lane, Murphy, Seo, Teuscher would take 7. Eight if Kochetkova returns. I'd like to see Shevchenko get a shot. I also like a Teuscher/Nikiya and Shevchenko/Gamzatti scenario. I'd love to see Brandt get a DQ. Edited to add: Of course, if next year is anything like this past season, we could see a lot of last minute debuts (certainly not wishing for any injuries). Murphy is getting injured more frequently and taking longer to recover it seems, so whether or not she's healthy could determine a lot.
  23. MCB's website and Twitter says that everyone is ok and that they are assessing their building: https://www.miamicityballet.org/ https://twitter.com/MiamiCityBallet?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^author
