  1. From the email sent out to patrons - note that a limited number of observor tickets will be available: https://school.sfballet.org/masterclassseries?utm_source=mail2&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=16MasterClassSubDonorMKTG&source=22705
  2. Nice description Ashton Fan - now I'm interested too.
  3. S.F. Ballet Heads to China as Yuan Yuan Tan Celebrates 20th Anniversary http://https://www.sfcv.org/article/sf-ballet-heads-to-china-as-yuan-yuan-tan-celebrates-20th-anniversary
  4. Ah, Lermontov - thanks for those details. That makes more sense given Possokhov's personality. But I can't see him really trying to do an Onegin-type story ballet. I'm guessing Yuri finds a way to make the structure more 'experimental'. Has anyone seen the actual production of Hero of Our Time?
  5. Agreed - it was fun to watch WBD live last year. I see we will get to hear from Yuri Possokhov and Brigitte Lefevre, but not in the expected places. I would like to see some footage of Possokhov's Hero of Our Time (sounds very Soviet, does it not?). It would be even better if SFB showed performance footage of Swimmer (which is full of Americana), but that probably isn't possible (or planned).
  6. It is sad to see her go, but it's great to hear that she has a definite career path opening up for her. Most of us remember her as simply the best animated ballerina doll - in Act 1 of The Nutcracker. But that ability may have forced her into dancing that particular role far more than she actually wanted.
  7. Yes, if someone wants to know how Jones sings, the original cast recording has his vocals on it, and the DVD documentary of the audio recording has Jones on it too.
  8. Known especially for his many Disney films (of the classic 1960s-70s era), Dean Jones also performed in Sondheim's Company. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/09/03/movies/dean-jones-star-of-disneys-the-love-bug-dies-at-84.html "He had actually started his career as a singer before going on to appear in a string of mostly forgettable films throughout the 1950s. A notable exception was 1957's Jailhouse Rock, one of Elvis Presley's best-remembered vehicles, in which Jones had a small role as a disc jockey." --A.P. quote
  9. I've been trying to guess where the next SFB "international" tour would go - Somewhere in Asia (I figured Japan) and Cuba were my top choices. But China is the destination: Press Release
  10. I think a successful online presence is something that would survive the creative director who gets it rolling. That's an idea that has been around for some time, but no company has had the money to really get it rolling. I assume POB will have to use a service like medici.tv for streaming the performances - I can't imagine there being money to create a truly separate online platform for POB.
  11. Looks like Kondaurova is not appearing in So Cal this time around. Ah well. I'm not seeing any casting for Cinderella in Berkeley, yet...
  12. I'm reviving this old thread just because I see there is some recent video of a Parade performance by Europa Danse (apparently using the Joffrey Ballet's restoration of Parade as a model): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Chq1Ty0nyE&feature=youtu.be
  13. I assumed it was an online presence of some kind, maybe hosted by one of the big streaming services already broadcasting European concert performances. Will there be world-wide access (probably by subscription)? I imagine Millepied would want that - and it certainly would put real pressure on other companies to be more digitally accessible. Alas, there's so little information at this point, I could be way off. ;)
  14. Coming September 15th - So what and where is 3e Scène? https://instagram.com/p/62rjDXtabc/?taken-by=balletoperadeparis New Leaders at Paris Opera Unveil an Ambitious Future http://www.nytimes.com/2015/02/05/arts/international/new-leaders-at-paris-opera-unveil-an-ambitious-future.html 'Mr. Millepied and Mr. Lissner also announced the creation of “3e Scene,” or “third stage,” a digital platform on the Paris Opera Ballet website as of Sept. 14 for new work by composers, choreographers, directors, visual artists, filmmakers and writers. “We want to build a platform that creates our own content and provides a way to look at work coming from us without being in the actual buildings,” Mr. Millepied said.'
  15. RIP Ms. Craig. No one who has watched the original Star Trek can forget the "green girl". ;)
  16. SFB's Instagram page happened to have this "turning" moment with Jahna Frantziskonis: https://instagram.com/p/6SoUZCsj7j/?taken-by=sfballet I'm going to have to ask: What is the correct pronunciation of her last name?
  17. I've yet to know of someone not complaining about SF real estate and rental prices. ;) I remember Froustey mentioning that it was much easier finding an apartment in Paris than SF. The tech boom in the Bay Area is largely responsible for things getting out of hand. SF is really small in terms of physical space, so it's kinda inevitable that the actual city of SF becomes wholly gentrified as the local population swells. "The population of roughly 825,000 in 2012 will have steadily increased to a milestone by 2032, when a projected 1 million people will make their home inside city limits, according to an upcoming report from the Association of Bay Area Governments. By 2040, the report speculates that the growth rate will begin to level out at 1,085,700." --The Examiner Personally, I don't want to be around to experience a million+ people jammed into that little peninsula.
  18. The SF Ballet Blog has an article about the dancer's 2015 summer vacations. And Jahna Frantziskonis, who is coming from PNB, mentions that her brother goes to school at SF Ballet School, and she will be able to live with him: http://www.sfballetblog.org/2015/07/i-know-what-you-did-this-summer/ I often wonder how the new dancers manage to find decent places to live in the hugely overpriced city.
  19. Ummmmm, Grand Hotel !!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRqCTXjXNGw
  20. Quite the nice little home video from Ms. Froustey - with a Swan Lake theme: A Ballerina's Obsession https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ysmQY0_V6E&feature=youtu.be'>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ysmQY0_V6E&feature=youtu.be
  21. "Sidford has been a member of San Francisco Ballet since 2012 and he partnered Kotchetkova wonderfully. His confidence, techinique and assurance were that which makes one sit up and notice: Remember his name." As soon as I heard that Kochetkova was being paired with Sidford, I wondered - How did that come about? But you may have supplied a big part of the answer. Perhaps when Kochetkova announced that she was looking for a partner for this event, one of the unavailable soloists suggested giving Sidford a chance.
  22. That's a good guess, PeggyTulle - I wouldn't know her voice, myself, but that does look like Borne.
