aqualia2008
From Oct. 30 to Nov. 15, 2016 the Mik comes back to NY & CA!!! It is already known that they will bring the new production of Le Corsaire. It will open the next ballet season at the Mik on September 8. It will be a Messerer version with Ekaterina Borchenko dancing Medora. Link to comment
Natalia
The Ruzimatov production of CORSAIRE that debuted ca-2009 is already being replaced? Not that it was a good one...too many cuts. The old Peter Gusev version for the Maly was more complete and satisfying. I hope that the Messerer will be closer to the Gusev. I love the Messerer FLAMES OF PARIS, so this new CORSAIRE should be a winner. Link to comment
aqualia2008
As I know Messerer doesn't like the Ruzimatov production. The last performance was in Tokyo two months ago. The choreography of the new version as announced: Joseph Mazilier, Jules Perrot, Marius Petipa, Konstantin Sergeyev, Pyotr Gusev revised by Mikhail Messerer. Link to comment

mussel
I hope they'll bring back Flames of Paris, and no Nacho Duato. Link to comment
mussel
The dates are very odd. 10/30/16 is Sunday and 11/15/16 is Tue., tours usually start during the week or at the beginning of a weekend, and end on Sat. or Sun. Also the dates coincide with ABT fall season, assuming it's the State Theater, does that mean ABT & State Theater are not renewing their 3-year contract which expires after 2015 fall season? The days of the week seem odd, and what about ABT........ I went to quite a few of the Mikhailovsky’s NY performances last year, and would love to see the company back in NY in 2016. I haven’t been able to find any information about a 2016 tour except on Ballet Alert. Does anyone know where this information originated? Link to comment

mussel
Thanks to California for the link to Segerstrom 2016/17 season: http://www.scfta.org/scfta/media/General/Press/2016-17-Full-Season-Announcement.pdf Mik will bring Laurencia to SoCal between 11/18-11/20/16, so I assume the NY tour will be the 2 weeks before that and will get Laurencia as well. Osipova and Vasiliev, along with Sergei Polunin will tour with the company. In addition to Le Corsaire and Laurencia, I think NY will also get Swan Lake. Link to comment
mussel
I think the NYC tour is now doubtful, I sure hope I am wrong as the SCFTA lauds Laurencia as "Center premiere" not "USA premiere". Link to comment
abatt
Why would calling Laurencia a "Center" premiere cast doubt on a visit to New York? I interpret that to mean that the USA premiere of Laurencia will take place before the Mik visits California -- i.e., the USA premiere will be in New York City. I doubt that the entire Mik company, including Osipova, Vasiliev and Polounin, would come all the way to the US for a weekend of performances in California. Their bread and butter is a long visit to NYC before the California engagement. Link to comment
alexL
Well, it seems like at least Osipova and Polunin will be in NY in Nov 10-12. I'll be very sad if Mikhailovsky does skip NY this year because Levedev is the reason why I joined this forum! He was stunning as Albrecht. Link to comment
MadameP
Lebedev is definitely a must-see dancer. He has everything - great turns, fabulous jump, and above all, he just has that wonderful cruising easy quality that is so rare, particularly beautiful arms and line and such elegance! He is one of those dancers who loves the audience and they love him in return - he has GREAT stage presence. I love watching him! Link to comment
Natalia
The only ballet trip Ill be taking to NY between now and the end of the year would be to see the Mik's Laurencia...if it's happening. Any cast. If not NY, then the closest city to DC with Laurencia. A crying shame that the Kennedy Center doesn't program the Mik. (Just look at the new KC ballet/dance season brochure and cry. Old-fashioned classics no longer in style.) Link to comment
koshka
<Sigh> As of today, no indication of a NY tour stop--only the California stop is mentioned on their site: http://www.mikhailovsky.ru/en/afisha/tours/the_mikhailovsky_theatre_on_tour_in_usa_2016/ Link to comment
Natalia
So only Corsaire & only Segerstrom? No signs of Laurencia? Phooey. On the positive side, I'll be saving a lot of money next season. Just planning a couple of Kennedy Center shows in late spring (NYCB and Peck's "Ballet in America" program), some ballets in cinema, and MAYBE a trip to Sarasota in April for Ashton's Apparitions. That's all folks! Link to comment
abatt
Kind of amazing that they cancelled a tour to NY just because Osipova is not available. Do they think everyone else in the company is chopped liver? I would have bought tickets for every Sarafanov performance. Link to comment
seattle_dancer
Touring is not a profit generating activity, so I suppose they looked at sales from Fall 2014 and decided NYC didn't make sense. Let's face it - we were spoiled by that tour, orchestra and the variety of offerings. At least I can do Segerstrom in a weekend, since I'm short on remaining vacation days after my Moscow/St. P trip. Now I have a good excuse to return to St P. Thanks for posting the update koshka! Link to comment
