Elina
I am happy to tell you that Daria (ex-Vasnetsova) Makhateli has now joined the Finnish National Ballet as a principal dancer. This is official news announced by the opera. She is greeted in Helsinki by other Vaganova/Mariinsky alumni - Sergei Popov and Stanislav Beljajevski. Link to comment
Buddy
I've loved seeing her at the Mariinsky. I especially liked her Myrtha (Giselle) at the Festival a few years ago. I recall seeing her for the first time in Washington DC, nearly ten years ago(?), when they had a ballet companies' schools series. Most companies sent a large group. The Mariinsky sent two dancers, Daria Vasnetsova and her partner. She was perhaps my favorite. I've watched for her carefully ever since. I've not yet been to Finland, but this might another good reason to do so. I wish her much success. Link to comment
Natalia
I totally agree, Buddy. This is one talented soloist who was rarely given her rightful chance to shine at the MT, although she essayed Odette/Odile a couple of times. I wish her justice and success abroad. Link to comment
alexaa1a
I totally agree, Buddy. This is one talented soloist who was rarely given her rightful chance to shine at the MT, although she essayed Odette/Odile a couple of times. I wish her justice and success abroad. Vasnetsova only danced Odeete/Odile once on November 2, 2008, during the beginning of Fateyev's reign as acting ballet director. Probably Vaziev had planned her debut, but only my guess. This is the Mariinky link to her debut http://www.mariinsky.ru/playbill/playbill/2008/11/2/1_1900/ 3 days earlier, Kondaurova made her Swan Lake debut. http://www.mariinsky.ru/playbill/playbill/2008/10/30/1_1900/ Kondaurova had many more chances in the next few months, but Vasnetsova never had any more chances. Olesya Novikova had a remarkable debut on June 18, 2011, but she never got a 2nd chance, just like Vasnetsova. http://www.mariinsky.ru/playbill/playbill/2011/6/18/1_1900/ Link to comment
Elina
Daria (Vasnetsova) Makhateli will have her Finnish National Ballet debut on Thu 11/12/2014 in The Nutcracker and the Mouse King (chor. Wayne Eagling and Toer van Schayk). She will be dancing the role of Liisa, older sister of Clara. She is also scheduled to dance Mercedes in Don Quixote (Patrice Bart) next year (dates are not known yet). Finnish National ballet usually gives casting information one month before the show. The remaining program for season 2014-15 is following: THE NUTCRACKER AND THE MOUSE KING (Dec) DON QUIXOTE (Jan+Mar-Apr) Premiere KULLERVO (Tero Saarinen-Jean Sibelius) in Feb. Story is based on Kalevala, the national epic of Finland. Premiere MOOMIN AND THE CORNET (Anandah Kononen) based on a children's book by the Finnish author Tove Jansson in March on the smaller Alminsali stage. Premiere A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM (Jorma Elo) in Apr-May. A season celebrating Finnish talent. For those interested in visiting Helsinki, Helsinki is only a short train ride (3,5 hours) from St. Petersburg - the obvious main attraction in the area. Link to comment

Elina
Premiere MOOMIN AND THE CORNET (Anandah Kononen) based on a children's book by the Finnish author Tove Jansson in March on the smaller Alminsali stage. My sister and I loved those books! Moomins are hugely popular in Finland these days. They were not part of my childhood growing up although the books existed. It was propably only after the Japanese cartoon series came out when Moomins became more popular. Finnish National ballet's March Premiere of MOOMIN AND THE CORNET is apparently already sold out and was even given a couple of extra performances. The ballet is choreographed by Anandah Kononen who is a dancer in the Finnish National ballet. Link to comment

Kudos to Dasha Vasnetsova for her landing Principal Dancer at Finnish National Ballet! Congratulations to her! There is another wonderful soloist who had one O/O debut and no follow-up at the Mariinsky. Moreover, she waited 10 years for her debut: Ekaterina Osmolkina. She danced two follow-ups as O/O at Covent Garden with the Royal Ballet. Link to comment
Lidewij
I looked for her on the Finnish National Ballet website, but couldn't find her. Does anyone know in which company she's dancing right now? Link to comment
Natalia
No clues on her Facebook account. Perhaps she's decided to be a freelance "guest star" with different companies, affiliated with her husband's successful galas/events management company (D&D Arts)? Link to comment
YID
I'd say as per her husband's facebook page she still dances.
