Natalia
Time to begin to plan and save our pennies for the next great reconstruction of a Petipa work -- it's the 1898 RAYMONDA, to be staged by Sergei Vikharev, in Milan! Details below, from the La Scala web, but it appears that even the sets & costumes will be restored. Wow. http://www.teatroallascala.org/en/stagioni/2010_2011/opera-e-balletto/raymonda.html It appears that the Mariinsky's Olesya Novikova will be one of the ballerinas essaying the title role. cubanmiamiboy
Great news. Yesterday I was watching Bessmertnova's, which I adore...(I especially LOVE the music of the last act's Grand Pas' Adagio, which is sublime). I'm very curious to finally see how the White Lady was initially designed, and its original weight on the story. Can't wait for the clips to pop on Youtube... Thanks for posting this Natalia! Hope to see you there! I've never been to La Scala. Every year I've been hoping to see Raymonda at the Mariinsky Festival. It doesn't look like it's ever going to happen there. (Especially a reconstruction of it).
Natalia
..... Hope to see you there! I've never been to La Scala. .... Indeed, chiapuris. Best of all: It's even easier to get to Italy than to Russia for a short vacation...Look Ma, NO VISAS!
canbelto
Now if the ballet deities can have the La Scala Raymonda filmed, that would be even better! (And considering La Scala ballet has released videos of Swan Lake, Giselle, Midsummer Night's Dream and La Bayadere in recent years, it's not out of the realm of possibility.) Natalia
This is still "on schedule." A small update to the La Scala Ballet web indicates that tickets go on sale July 27, 2011. How ironic that the biggest Petipa event in 2011 will not happen in St. Petersburg or even in Russia. St P seems to prefer the likes of Nacho Duato as head of the Mikhailovsky and - to add insult to injury - Preljocaj's LE PARC (Vishneva vanity project?) as the centerpiece of the next Mariinsky Ballet Festival in April. So it's Milan all the way for vacation plans.
Mashinka
A couple of things regarding the last post, Le Parc by Prelocaj is a work of genius, though I'll admit it may well be beyond the abilities of the Kirov. Going to Milan? it won't be simple, a friend went to see Sylvie Guillem there last week and told me the tickets cost a fortune and when he booked he was expected to give his passport number as security. To me that is outrageous, what right has a *!*!ing theatre got to ask for someone's passport number just to book a ticket? I was seriously thinking of going to see this, but after being told about La Scala's methods I've changed my mind.
Natalia
I've booked tix via internet before for both La Scala and La Fenice (Venice) and had no troubles. Sorry that you had problems.
Natalia
There will be a pre-premiere conference about Raymonda on Oct 5, 5pm, in the Toscanini Hall of La Scala. Tickets are free but 'first come, first served.' http://www.teatroallascala.org/it/stagione/manifestazioni/2010-2011/prima-delle-prime-raymonda.html The opening is still set for the following Monday, Oct 11, starring Novikova, Cote and Murru. This will be Vikharev's reconstruction of the 1898 Petipa original, using the Sergeyev Notebooks of Harvard University. The 1898 Imperial Mariinsky sets & costumes are also being recreated. Now that we know that La Scala Ballet's AD, Vaziyev, is staying put in Milan (not going to Moscow to take over the Bolshoi Ballet), everything should proceed as originally scheduled. Whew! Six performances over 6 ddays (matinee & evening perfs on the 5th). Ticket sales still begin on July 27. Novikova still scheduled to dance 4 of 7 performances, including the premiere. Guillaume Cote no longer listed as a guest performer. Massimo Murru still on.

Natalia, I just checked the website of La Scala and the premiere was listed for the 11, 14, 25, 27 for Raymonda, I planned two perfs. on the 11 and 14, securing them on july 27 as stated. Any info up and coming? jc

doug
Any clarification of dates? There seem to be two sets of dates through the La Scala site.
Natalia
Updates here: http://www.teatroallascala.org/en/season/opera-ballet/2010-2011/raymonda.html As Chiapuris had noted, the dates have shifted yet again, now back to an Oct 11 premiere. (Doug, I could not find the earlier dates cited in the current La Scala site.) Also, I see that int'l star Friedemann Vogel is now listed to dance Jean de Brienne in the first casts (along with Novikova as Raymonda and Murru as Abderakhman). Tickets still go on sale in a little over a month from now - July 27 at 9am, Milan time. Like Chiapuris, I'm planning to go to the first 2 performances. My biggest wish & prayer is that La Scala not play "bait-and-switch" with Novikova, i.e., at the last minute, replacing the classical & musical Novikova with 'a certain Mariinsky principal' who seems to be getting a lot of guest gigs at La Scala of late. As they say in the newspaper business, "Watch this space!"
Azulynn
The dates didn't shift - the series of performances starting on October 3 is in 2012, not 2011.
Natalia
I just saw that, Azulynn! October 2012 schedule (again Novikova!): http://www.teatroallascala.org/en/season/opera-ballet/2011-2012/Raymonda.html Those tix go on sale July 30, 2012. And the current 2010/11 season version: http://www.teatroallascala.org/en/season/opera-ballet/2010-2011/raymonda.html Don't Italian theaters consider December to be the beginning of the opera & ballet season? So this year's opening Raymondas must be at the tail-end of the 2010-2011 season.

chiapuris
I just purchased tickets from La Scala on their website for Raymonda Oct 11 and Oct 14! Hooray!
chiapuris
FYI For those interested in the 1898 Petipa reconstructed (Vikharev) Raymonda, I received by post the tickets I had ordered on the 27th july on the La Scala website. it took exactIly one week. I opted for the premiere , the 11th of Oct and the 14th
Natalia
Here's a small vid of the ongoing rehearsals for the big premiere of the Raymonda-1898 reconstruction by Vikharev & co.: http://www.teatroallascala.org/en/season/opera-ballet/2010-2011/raymonda_cnt_18451.html The magnificent 1898 sets and the 300+ costumes have been faithfully reproduced. The regular LaScala troupe is being augmented by dozens of extras and the La Scala Ballet academy. (The bad economy must not have hit Milano...or perhaps the ghost of Ludovico Sforza is underwriting it.) It's a real shame that Mother Russia isn't mounting this but, hey, Russia's loss is Italy's gain. Novikova/Vogel lead the premiere on October 11. Natalia
It's just three short weeks before the premiere on 11 October. The La Scala website has uploaded some lovely photos of the preparations. The scenery looks incredibly deluxe: http://www.teatroallascala.org/en/season/opera-ballet/2010-2011/raymonda_cnt_18915.html They've also uploaded historical photos and sketches of the original 1898 production at the Imperial Mariinsky Theater, which Vikharev is staging (recreating on the La Scala dancers and guest soloists): http://www.teatroallascala.org/en/season/opera-ballet/2010-2011/raymonda_cnt_18716.html In each gallery, click on the thumbnail pics to see the full photo.
