I don't think it's too bad Amy Aldridge is performing only once. We've seen far too little of Janie Taylor this past year. If anything, we should be upset that Taylor isn't getting to do all the Tarantellas, as well as not doing any "Man I Love"s in Who Cares.

I also feel that many of the guest artists who have performed thus far have failed to live up to the standards of New York City Ballet's current roster. I would have loved to see a Borree/Hubbe Sonatine or a Weese/Woetzel Ballo. I think it was maybe a nice idea to bring in all these guest artists, however, I feel that the best way to have honored Balanchine is to give his ballet's the kind of renditions they deserve...something only New York CIty Ballet's dancers are capable of doing.

(Counting to 10 million before responding directly to this :) )

I agree with hockeyfan228......

I hope this remark was one of those throwaway, off-the-cuff remarks which, upon reflection, is edited ...

If this is truly your opinion, I must say I'm surprised.

However, we don't all have to agree, and your opinion is your opinion.

I do think it's bizarre that DTH dancers are doing this. The other guest artists have been interesting because of their different training and approach. How DTH is going to differ substantially or illustrate a new facet of these ballets is debatable......

I am relatively confident that NYCB's own will have ample opportunity to dance their normal rep in the future. Meanwhile, I enjoy the opportunity to see new dancers, most of whom I would not normally get a chance to see.

There seems to be a larger than usual rep this season. I don't think anyone who's healthy is losing opportunities. Everyone seems to be dancing a fairly full schedule.

carbro, I agree. Ballets such as Sonatine (out of the rep. for so long) or Ballo would take time to reherse. With guests handling the two principal parts in both ballets, it frees a NYCB dancer to work on other ballets. And it gives us a chance to see dancers we would only see infrequently or not at all.

I'm with Carbro and Dale on this guest artist issue. My first reaction had been that NYCB dancers should be doing the roles, but as I see the wonderfully talented dancers from all across our country and indeed from around the world who are dancing Balanchine roles so well, it seems to me that Balanchine's influence is very effectively and most dramatically demonstrated: and that's the point of this centennial season. Besides, it's great fun!!

Personal for me, I love guest stars mainly for financial reasons. Its highly doubtful I will ever be able to fly off to France and see the Paris Opera Ballet. Unless the company travel to the New York area I will never see it. After hearing so much praise for Aurelie Dupont and Manuel Legris it was nice to see them for myself. As long as the guest starring is done in moderation I don't see any problem with it.

In case we weren't tired already of Bouder  , for the casting for Tuesday night has changed so that Bouder is now debuting in TWO roles in one evening. Those of us at the Wall-to-Wall got a preview of Bouder in the burgandy girl role (they are giving her a needed rest by taking her out of Interplay).

How glad am I that I have tickets?
