  1. The Sylvia casting on the ABT site used to list all three leads Sylvia, Amita and Orion). Now they are only listing 2. Vasiliev is Orion, but they are just not listing the casting for that character on their website right now.
  2. http://balletnews.co.uk/landmark-season-for-the-mariinsky-theatre/ Here's a link to the press release I found on the internet. It does say Swan Lake on Feb 14. It also says that there will be a filming of Vishneva in R&J on Feb 28 that will be broadcast at some later time. It also mentions a filming of Ratmansky's Cinderella in May 2013.
  3. Could Gergiev have made a mistake and identified the wrong ballet. Isn't Mariinsky doing Romeo & Juliet on Feb 14, 2013?
  4. There are two intermissions. Yes, definitely a long opera, but worth the investment of time.
  5. I thought most of the choreography was tedious. Susan Graham was wonderful, as was tenor Hymmel. (Don't have my book handy, probably mis-spelled his name.) I'm curious to hear reactions to Debbie Voigt from people who saw it in movie theaters. I saw this twice in the Big House, and Debbie often sounded poor on both nights. I think her deficiencies may not have been so obvious in the movie theaters.
  6. Birdsall, thanks for the update. Alicia Graf is amazing. I believe Pas De Duke was originally made for Judith Jamison and Baryshnikov. It has not been revived in recent seasons in NYC, so I'm hoping they do it in New York next season. The Ailey rep can be a very mixed bag of the mediocre and the wonderful, so you do need to pick your programs carefully. I'm glad you were able to see Part and Gomes in SL. I don't think we will ever see them together in that ballet again here in NYC. Part is doomed to be Stearns' partner until Ms. Kent decides to stop dancing SL.
  7. That's strange. Why did they wait so long to post Kent/Gomes. Also new is Osipova's partner in Syliva will be Cornejo. I wonder who will be in A Month in the Country.
  8. Agreed. Ringer was outstanding as Aurora. In fact, if memory serves, she was promoted to principal shortly after her glorious performances as Aurora.
  9. The Sleeping Beauty production at NYCB is far superior to the ABT version, in my opinion. However, I think that your level of enjoyment will depend heavily on the cast. I saw all of the 5 different casts last time. Sadly, one of the 5 ballerinas (K. Morgan) will not be present for this run. My favorite Aurora was Tiler Peck during the last run. I never choose SB based on the lead male. (The other ballerinas last time were Hyltin, Bouder, and M. Fairchild).
  10. Wow. Marking my calendar for Mearns' debut as Waltz Girl. Glad to see Ringer back on stage too. Counting down the days. No Wendy?
  11. Me too. A movie is cheap enough. Hopefully Birdsall can give us a review since he is attending.
  12. Yes. The broadcasts seem to split most often between Alexandrova and Zakharova. If Osipova had remained, I assume she would have been the star of several addtiional broadcasts. (She had already been in Flames, Don Q and Copelia before she quit.) I do enjoy Alexandrova and Zakharova, but I would be curious to see some other Bolshoi stars too. I notice David Hallberg has not been in anything since Sleeping Beauty. Of course, he was injured for a time. Is he back dancing w. the Bolshoi during the non-ABT season?
  13. The Boslhoi Bayadere is going to be broadcast as part of the Emerging Pictures series. The broadcast date in NY is Feb 17. Does anyone know who will be dancing the leads for that broadcast?
  14. There is no savings whatsover in being a subscriber. In fact, when you factor in the handling fee for the subscription, it actually ends up costing a little more per ticket than just buying at the box office. Yes, the priority exchange only works its magic if you can actually get to the box office window during the priority week. I hardly ever buy singles on the internet site because the per ticket handling fee is, in my opinion, a waste of money. I'd rather spend the money on tickets than fees.
  15. By buying only one regular subscription, you will be able to take advantage of the priority exchange/purchase week for ABT subscribers, which is for one week before tixs go on sale to the general public. (I'm not sure if the priority exchange also applies to the "Create Your Own" subscription option. Maybe someone else here knows.)
  16. The only dud is Couture Ball. The first two weeks of the season are an embarrassment of riches. Go to all 3 programs, if possible.
  17. Bolle's website lists the dates already on the ABT calendar. In addition, he will be doing Ratmansky Symphony No 9 June 1 and 3rd. He will also appear on May 21 and May 21, but he doesn't indicate which ballet.
  18. More casting info. We're getting some excellent visiitors from Europe as part of an exchange. See Link below. http://artsbeat.blog...hange/?ref=arts. Kevin should let the Royal know that they can borrow Cory whenever they want.
  19. Essentially, the casting now looks live an offshoot combo of ABT and NYCB, with a few others thrown in for good measure. Glad to see that Stella Abrera is included. She never seems to perform at these special events. This is the second time that Korbes has been advertised for an event but ends up as a no show. (The other was the performances at the Joyce of Ballet Next, where Korbes name was prominently listed as a featured artist, but never appeared during the entire engagement. I'm sure that was Ballet Next's fault, not Korbes.)
  20. There have been some cast changes for this gala. http://www.yagp.org/...s/?page_id=2837 No Hallberg, no Korbes, no Kondaurova. See link for current casting info.
  21. Balanchine loved a vodka toast, and also apparently liked smoked salmon on pumpernickel bread.
  22. This issue came up about 15+ years ago when a colleague of mine, whose wife was a principal at NYCB at the time, gave a pair of used autographed pointe shoes to one of the important partners in our company (as a present to his young daughter). He thought the partner gave him an odd look because the shoes were used, even though this is the tradition. (He also explained that given how much each pair of shoes costs, there was no way he would be giving away a pair of unused pointe shoes.)
