  1. JMcN, you are so lucky to have seen her dance live.
  2. I recently discovered Eva Evdokimova and am in love with her dancing. This is how I found her (see below). Her Sylphide is so exquisite. Her ballon, entrechats, gorgeous footwork, beautiful fingers, softness and how she skims the surface of the stage. If only there was her full length Sylphide on video.
  3. Yes, sandik, it is. I love the Orientalism, plasticity and subtle eroticism of the choreography. The score is lovely too.
  4. It's my pleasure, Helene. Bessmertnova and Vasiliev are magical in this ballet. Wish there was a complete film of them dancing it. I know there was a dazzling YT video of Vasiliev doing the solo that leads into the PDD shown in the above video. Is it still viewable or has it been pulled? I love that Goleizovsky showcases Bessmertnova's plasticity and not her famous jump.
  5. Rehearsal footage of Mikhail Lavrovsky, Vladimir Vasiliev and Natalia Bessmertnova in "Leilei & Mejnun" with commentary by the choreographer, Kasyan Goleizovksy. The lift at 3:57-4:15 nearly kills me! The ballet was made on Vasiliev and Bessmertnova in 1964 and are 2 of their greatest roles.
  6. The ballerina is Natalia Somova of the Moscow Stanislavsky Ballet.
  7. My pleasure, Sandik. I stumbled across this video while searching for the dazzling clip of Vasiliev's solo shown at the beginning of this performance by an unknown dancer in "Leili". The music is lovely too and I love the Oriental flavor of the entire piece.
  8. Who is the ballerina in this Pas de Deux from Leili & Mejnun? It's beautiful choreography. Such a crime that Grigorovich banned all of Kasian Goleizovsky's works soon after he became Artistic Director of the Bolshoi, but grateful for the revival. Mejnun was one of Vladimir Vasileiv's greatest roles and there is YT video to prove it and wonderful rehearsal footage with him and Bessmertnova and commentary by the choreographer.
  9. Thanks, rg, I wonder what the holdup is? Such a shame that a complete NYCB La Valse is not available. I recall watching in the '80's on A&E or some other arts channel and was impressed by Leland.
  10. I'm looking for the film of La Valse that NYCB did in the early '70's starring Sara Leland as The Girl In White. Is this available for viewing on the web or to purchase on dvd?
  11. I own the dvd of Mezentzeva/Zaklinsky dancing Swan Lake with the Kirov. In that production the harp cadenza for the Act II PDD is unique. Anyone know who wrote it?
  12. I want to read Puskin's magnum opus but don't know which translation to choose. Suggestions anyone? Thanks!
  13. Actually the film I'm looking for was the Fonteyn-Nureyev complete ballet with the Liszt Sonata played by piano and orchestra. It looked like it was filmed on the Covent Garden stage not a studio.
  14. I know a film of Marguerite & Armand with Fonteyn and Nureyev was filmed around 1971-72. Is it available on dvd?
  15. Best Olga Smirnova dancing on US soil for the first time. May many more follow! Worst Yuriko Kajiya departure. McKenzie should have promoted her to principal. The retirement of Larissa Lezhnina. The passing of Alla Sizova.
  16. dirac. Lisi was so fabulous in "Queen Margot" that I'm popped the dvd in just to watch her in all her evil glory.
  17. Virna Lisi passed away on Wednesday at the age of 78. I don't know much about her career in the '60's-70's, but she was wonderfully evil and commanding as Catherine de Medici in "Queen Margot". RIP, Ms. Lisi.
  18. Thank you, Drew, for the wonderful clips. Sizova was exquisite.
  19. I'm looking for articles on Olga Chenchikova. Can anyone help? Thanks!
  20. I enjoyed the documentary and the highlight commentary-wise was Jacques d'Amboise's; Jacques is a joy to listen to and his obvious affection for Tanny was very moving. I was disappointed that no ballerinas were interviewed. No Allegra Kent, Patricia Neary, Patricia Wilde, Violette Verdy, am I missing anyone?
  21. How wonderful that Smirnova will be dancing on NY soil!
  22. I've been watching O'Toole' s appearances on the David Letterman Show. He was a raconteur extraordinaire and his story telling mastery, immense charm and biting wit have made my day. How fortunate we are to have lived whilst he did.
  23. Peter O'Toole passed away on Saturday from stomach cancer at the age of 81. He was a sublime and versatile actor who will be sorely missed.
