  10. It doesn't have to be career-ending, but it's generally severe and has a long recovery time.
  11. Here is the announcement on NYCB's Facebook page, with photos of the dancers: As we near the season opening, we're excited to welcome the newest faces of the NYCB corps de ballet. Congratulations to (from top left) Austin Bachman, Silas Farley, Ghaleb Kayali, Sebastian Villarini-Velez, Harrison Coll, and Claire Von Enck on their promotions from apprentice.
  12. Dame Beryl Grey appreciated Zakharova's performance: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=544991878895171&set=a.162985937095769.39168.162981420429554&type=1 A wonderful photo by Marc Haegeman.
  13. Congratulations to the promoted dancers and the new aspirants Tina Højlund's Effie was the absolute highlight of the "La Sylphide" I saw in the early '00's.
  14. That these corps dancers have left the company is substantiated: they were removed from the roster. It's where they're going that needs to be in official news.
  15. That's interesting about Obraztsova in "Onegin," because Reid Anderson was very specific about which dancers he felt were suitable Tatianas, and Zakharova walked because she wasn't cast as Tatiana on opening night.
  16. Only public-facing official news, please, with a link or source, on new news about what dancers removed from the ABT website roster are now up to. (The Messmer and Dvorovenko news has already been substantiated in press releases.)
  17. Rebecca Mead wrote an upbeat profile of Benjamin Millepied in the Aug. 5, 2013 issue of The New Yorker. Only the opening is available online now for non-subscribers, but the issue is also available on newsstands. http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2013/08/05/130805fa_fact_mead
  18. The shortened versions are a great way to watch the show, especially for those of us who aren't their target demographic. Many thanks, EvelNinjaX.
  19. I'm so glad you got to see it, volcanohunter! Get some rest, and please let us know about it when you have time.
  20. Yup, it was cold: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151620576403952&set=a.439537898951.224264.21358443951&type=1
  21. I just finished reading Mary Cargill's excellent recap of the NYCB Spring 2013 Season in Dance View, and towards the end, she wrote, There's an openness and directness that is attributed to the American male dancer; Balanchine said that Americans "walk like men." I don't think it's so cut-and-dried when talking about women, let alone ballerinas.
  22. Roland Petit, Robert Joffrey, and Glenn Tetley made both types of ballets. I think there's a substantial difference between ballet companies performing modern and contemporary dance works that were created for different types of movement and vocabulary than ballet and the works that modern and contemporary choreographers create for ballet companies. Edited to Add: And Eliot Feld.
  23. There was an advertisement at the end for the "74-minute" version on the DVD. After I edited the broadcast to remove all but the central documentary, I clocked in at 53 minutes, or another 21 minutes (about 40%) of material. I suspect it's more commentary and footage by the same people. If anyone purchases the DVD, I'd appreciate it if you'd post to tell us what we missed on the broadcast.
  24. There was more body shot action in what I fast-forwarded through last night. I thought Alison's doctor boyfriend was a last-year resident. Unless he has a post-residency gig or an offer to be an attending there, his job could be mobile, likely a whole lot more mobile than hers. Clearly she was unhappy during their break-up, and she's glowing now, but it's too bad she has to stop dancing, because from what I've seen in those brief clips of her, she's very compelling, and, in her late 20's hasn't reached her prime.
  25. What years do you use to define mid-century?
