  1. The Alexandra Ballet Newsletter "Alumni News" section seems to be the place to get updates on Ms. Peppin. According to the Fall 2005 Newsletter (page 6) *Miss A is Alexandra Zaharias, Artistic Director of Alexandra Ballet. On page 3 of the August 2003 Newsletter, there's a photo of her demonstrating a Pilates machine to Prince Charles. (These are links to Adobe .pdf files.)
  2. Perhaps Acocella describes Cornejo as 5'6" because, as a general rule, it's the shortest than most men in America will admit to? I have a friend who is shorter than I (5'5") by at least two inches, and he was about to claim 5'6" until the three other women in the conversation and I made fun of this phenomenon. He then admitted to 5'3". If passing someone in the street is anything to go by, I would say that Cornejo is not taller than I am.
  3. Thank you, balletdad! That's great news. I'm glad he's staying on the West Coast. From an article in Links last year which described an art-buying adventure that included queuing up and living in a tent until the sale opened, he and Christopher Stowell are friends from their SFB days, and hopefully, Possokhov will continue to choreograph for Stowell at OBT.
  4. Just as an FYI, sadly, we can't count on presence on Google being a guarantee of copyright compliance.

  7. Thank you, Treefrog! It's remarkable that the gross of a benefit is donated entirely, not just the net amount. The donation of the theater was very generous.

  9. I wonder how much clout Kaiser has with the Bolshoi regarding repertory, since the Kennedy Center performances are part of a North American tour for the company. Would the sets for Bright Stream or The Bolt fit in NA theaters, and if they do, would transporting them here be a financial mess, if the demands for Swan Lake and Don Q to fill other cities' theaters would preclude programming these outside of DC? Neither Ratmansky work has the notoriety of the Romeo and Juliet the Bolshoi brought to NA a couple of years ago (and if I'm remembering correctly, the sets were fairly basic). I myself am extremely envious of the season the Bolshoi is presenting in London.
  10. I'd like to apologize to Ballet Talk readers for the site being down last night through this morning. In the transition to the new server, a bandwidth limit was not removed (nor, I suspect ,ever reset at the beginning of our service month.) :(

  17. That would be self-referential, with Gia Kourlas writing for both.
  18. Thank you for the info and links, amitava It's remarkable how much the photos capture both the position and the tension and elasticity in the dance, most notably in Thundering Silence, Morning Ground, Upon Calligraphy As the Form of Regular Script, Tchaikovsky Suite, Les Bras de Mer, and All River Red.
  19. There was a fork in this thread which discussed Michael Kaiser's record in programming dance at the Kennedy Center. I've split off a number of posts to a new topic in the Issues in Ballet forum, Kaiser at Kennedy Center. Unfornately the board software does not allow us to copy posts, so that they appear in two threads. If any of the posts here seem not to follow entirely, it's because I've been more of a battlefield surgeon in an attempt to make this split, and the referenced posts/ideas are likely to be found in the new thread.
  20. I'm sorry it took me so long to split this into its own topic: I was trying to figure out a way to extract it from the "Rockwell on Martins" thread.Just as an FYI, if you click a little red arrow next to a quote on most of the posts above this one, if the quoted post was originally on the Rockwell thread, you'll be navigated back to the Rockwell thread.
