  1. This ballet will be danced by POB's school this year. I've seen it was danced by the senior compagny during 1983-1984's season. Does anyone know what is it exactly and what can one expect ? Thanks in advance
  2. Well, I'll be in Paris, and will attend the school performance on april 20th If I can get tickets. For London, I think I will make my mind according to availability of these eurostar tickets sold as" nasty prices" tickets.
  3. Well, I saw on a video this Grand pas danced successively by Elisabeth Platel and Sylvie Guillem and the only thing you can say after seing SG's version is: wow! If technical perfection is not in this world, SG came very close to it in that video!
  4. Well, I'm not interested in Waltz's work and generally, in contemporary dance , although I like very much Prejlocaj's le parc eg. That does not mean I like only ballet with "tutus and pointes" ! I love some 20 th century's choregraphers, among them Cranko, Ashton, MacMillan, Balanchine, Robins, Forsythe, Neumier.... Personnaly, I hope that POB won't keep up this momentum, because there are tons of places in Paris and elsewhere in the country in which such works can be producted and ballet is disappearing everywhere. One don't have to forget that Pob is funded by the State (and my taxes lol!). All that one act things we've seen the last few years are costly because not that many tickets are being sold and very few dancers are required while all the others are paid at the same time...But I think that both Kader Berlabi and Nicolas Le Riche's efforts weren't bad at all. I, and from what i heard, others, are expecting that either Jean-Guillaume Bart or /and José Martinez will try to choregraph a full-length ballet for POB, their shorter pieces being so promising. Oh, and I believe that centralism isn't a problem at all for dance when it's contemporary. It's even rather bad, because I would prefer that ballet benefit from it, and actually that's not the case at all. And one more time, it's not I'm soured, at least I'm hope I'm not. Ticket for Waltz' s Romeo and Juliet was 130 euros: I elected to invest this money in a eurostar ticket sold at "a nasty price " (as it's being advertised!) and go to London to see Les Mis' one more time!
  5. Well, actually, I think that Wuthering Height was an excellent idea, although I would rather have seen it as a purely classical work. Jose Martinez and Jean-Guillaume Bart, who create in classical mode, certainly could have done something excellent. That being said, Kader Berlabi's result is more than respectable, and his Wuthering Height's was extremely well received, at least by audiences. Although this piece ins't a favorite of mine, I can say it's truly something (and it's valid for Caligula, too), contrary to most of contemporary creations seen at POB's during the last years and it has some magnificent moments.
  6. Articles about Waltz's 'Romeo and Juliet' . I haven't seen it, since tickets are so expensive and it isn't really my taste: http://www.nysun.com/article/64116 http://www.lesechos.fr/info/loisirs/4633605.htm http://www.figaroscope.fr/opera_danse/2007100200025076.html http://www.liberation.fr/culture/283414.FR.php http://www.edicom.ch/fr/news/culture/1186_4366401.html a video (I hope it's OK, the link is to an official site..If not, please delete it) http://videos.tf1.fr/video/news/culture/0,...-bastille-.html
  7. Well, I saw it and I can't say I have a lot of memories of it. It wasn't as bad as I had expected. I'm saying bad, because I saw on TV Nicolas le Riche's first choreo. I think it was something made for Nancy's Balled called RBV 21, that means "rouge, vert, bleu (red, green, blue) 21 and it was really a contemporary work. I thought I could bear Caligula because the music is Vivaldi's four seasons so I decided to give it a try. It's fine, but nothing extraordinary. Claire-Marie Osta was an excellent moon, wearing a white tutu and dancing on pointes, the only dancer to do so if I remember well. It's definitively a lot of better than RVB 21 though. Here are some links about the creative process (french) http://www.lexpress.fr/mag/arts/dossier/da....asp?ida=435415 reviews (english) http://www.culturekiosque.com/dance/reviews/caligula.html http://www.telegraph.co.uk/arts/main.jhtml...3/svdance13.xml http://www.nytimes.com/2005/10/27/arts/dance/27cali.html http://www.iht.com/articles/2005/10/31/features/cali.t.php

  9. Bart, Cindy Jourdain began at ROB's school when she was 16.
  10. Well, I'm going to think about your questions. Adeline Kaiser of SFB, although she's a graduate of ROB's school, actually trained there for only four years I believe. Before that, she was trained in her hometown (Grenoble, a small city in the French Alpes), was a one probationer at POB's school but was sent home after one year, and attended Marseille's school before going to ROB's school. Liora Reschef was trained by Dominique Khalfouni in Paris at the Académie internationale de danse (Nicole Chirpaz). Medhi Angot trained at POB's school. He dances with ENB. Elsa Montguillot trained at POB's. She dances with Zurich's ballet. Martin Arroyos trained at POB's school. He dances with Berlin's ballet. Julie Martquet trained partly at POB's school. She dances with Stuttgart's ballet. My former fellows who are abroad dance with Caroline Duprot trained at Stanlowa's. She dances with ROB Johanna Levy, trained at Stanlowa's, Lyon's Conservatory and Rudra dances in New York in a compagny called troikaranch. Stephanie Gerbal trained at Stanlowa's and POB's school. She dances with Leipzig Ballet. Hélène Bourbeillon trained at Stanlowa's. She dances with Geneva's Theater Ballet. Here's a link to the parent's assocation of Paris' national conservatory. You can see where their graduate are dancing http://danse.cnsmdp.free.fr/annuaire.htm
  11. Just a word to tell you some very good news : our young dancers love San Francisco and are more than happy there. Still, thanks to the ones who have made the experience possible. I wish each young dancer could have such a chance !
  12. Thanks Machinka, I have been able to get a ticket for The Corsaire this afternoon. Not a best one, because only cheapest seats were still available when I finaly got on the website, but that's better than nothing. It looks as if the triple bill is sold out (it was on the website early in the day) and only tickets costing 20 or 38 euros ($27 to $ 40) are still available for Spartacus and the Corsaire. I hope they will put more tickets on sale later. I think tickets' scarceness is emphazided by POB programming this season. They still have a plenty of tickets for the contemporary works to sell. The only real "ballet will be, beside school's performamces, Paquita and the Nutcracker (at the same time!) in december.
  13. Well, they're coming to Palais Garnier in January with three programs (Spartacus, the Corsaire, and a triple bill) and I guess it will be sold out. The ticket's sale was supposed to begin today on the Web. I was able to get one ticket for Spartacus after having tried out for one hour and a half (sales have began at 9 AM) , and either the two others programs are already sold out or the sale haven't begun: I can't say because anything is indicated on the Website. And getting tickets at the theater is a nightmare: the last time the Bolchoi came in, people begun to queue around 5 AM, knowing that sale offices opened at 12, so it meaned queuing for about 7 hours... For those of you who are in London, is it easier to get som tickets there when the Bolchoi is in ?
  14. Oh, I read several series and loved them all (Actually, I still can read them with pleasure ). The kids I know tend to prefer Harry Potter because they think EB's books aren't frightening enough. Times have changed and I feel very old because I was really frightened with some EB's books when I was 6-8...
  15. Oh, the answer will be very easy: Véronique Doisneau (that's the title)! It was created by Jérome Bel. The idea wasn't uninteresting but it was so boring. It was supposed to show the life of a dancer at POB. The only dancer on stage was Véronique Doisneau. It has a lot of spoken parts and not that much danced ones. The worse was the depicting of a swan's part in Swans' Lake. The music was played during a very long time and Véronique Doisneau stayed motionless on stage. I would like to tell I have absolutely nothing against Miss Doisneau as a dancer but that creation was definitively dreadful.
  16. Well, it was hard for them to quit their friends and they were some tears at the airport when they left, but I'm more than happy they have found the strength to go. SFB is an amazing compagny and I'm sure they will learn more than their fellows with temporary positions at POB. They weren't the best of their classes and were aware of that, but they're still excellent dancers. SFB 's experience should provide them with some very strongs weapons allowing them to do well in the future. At least one of them would like to come back in France next year but I really hope they can settle in the USA or somewhere else because of ballet's condition in France. it's really great SFB gave them a chance and I'm grateful to them for that. Not every POB's graduate has such a chance!
  17. It's now official, two young graduates (they're 18 and 19, born in 1989 and 1988) from POB's school will be participating in SFB's Trainee program. It's an amazing opportunity for them and I hope the ones who will see them dance will keep us updated with their progresses. http://www.sfballet.org/about/newspress/pr...asp?id=10193082
  18. Balanchine or something else...Thanks a lot for the link, I've ordered the DVD From I saw on amazon, the romantic era seems to be available only as a VHS
  19. Anyone knows if there are some Dvds when we can see her actually dancing ? I may have seen her dancing when I was young but i don't remember it
  20. http://www.lemonde.fr/web/article/0,1-0@2-...1-946241,0.html An article about her teaching activities and how she coaches stars. It also says she will retire in one year when she's 65.
  21. I saw this production of the Swan Lake yesterday (I will try to write something later) and if you are able to, go to see it ! It's less spectacular than the performances given at the Royal Albert Hall, but it's just magical. And don't forget to bring a warm coat, because the performances are ending at 11.30 PM and the weather is very cold at that time!
  22. http://www.ticketnet.fr/shop/fr/manif.asp?...;idmanif=123908. To order some tickets, click on "tarif promotion" (bargain prices)
  23. For the ones of you who are in Europe and who would like to see this production in Versailles' castle glorious surroundings next week, I just would like to let know you that you can find half prices tickets on tickenet (the french ticketmaster). Best tickets ("carré or") at bargain prices costs 46 euros each. I can post a link if that's allowed.

Fanny Gorse graduated from the POB's school two years ago and Lalie gratuated this year. Allister Madin gratuated also from the POB's school two years ago. One adores or dislikes him, but he really fought to make his dream come true. He also has been attending Dauphine University, a top school, while dancing. As for Yannick Bittencourt, I googled his name and the result is :http://www.abt.org/dancers/detail.asp?Dancer_ID=194 A big thought for the others, especially Nans Pierson and Marine Ganio. More results soon.
