  1. Shes joining the Ballet de Monte Carlo:
  2. Her instagram is deleted. E ta: oops no it's not I found it. She has a degree in art history now.
  3. Yes actually I love hip hop dancing and break dancing.
  4. But I don't miss the ballet choreography when I see Martha Graham, Merce Cunningham, Paul Taylor, even Pina Bausch. I can accept them for what they are and their movements as just as interesting. It's just Mark Morris where I find myself being frustrated by his favorite moves like the sways and the stomps and hops.
  5. Uh oh. I accidentally deleted that Orfeo post. I tried to recover what I remember writing and consolidated it into a new post: https://humbledandoverwhelmed.blogspot.com/2019/10/tucker-gala-2019-rbg-high-notes-and.html
  6. Blaine Hoven definitely possible, as well as Joo Woo Ahn and Calvin Royal, all good soloists without regular partners. Aran Bell and Thomas Forster are probably too tall and will be used for the taller women. But if she's comfortable with Gorak then I don't see why she shouldn't dance with him.
  7. Gorak danced it with Misty Copeland in the past.
  8. I guess this is all through the lens of knowing that these two ghosted each other on social media (while dancing in the same company) but looking back at their last Sleeping Beauty curtain calls the body language between them seems off. Lane's smile doesn't quite reach the eyes. It was really different from the Manon curtain calls where I remember a lot of snuggling all throughout curtain calls:
  9. If you follow Cornejo you'll see that there seems to be an even more radical scrub of his IG. ALL pictures with Lane are now gone, including stuff from two years ago like that lovely Bayadere and Don Q they did. I have a bunch of photos of that single Bayadere and was refreshing my memory at all the warm curtain call photos. This is depressing. Joseph Gorak's IG is actually one of the few places you can see Cornejo and Lane in happier times:
  10. Personal stuff happens between dancers all the time and they find dancing together either intolerable or unrealistic. Herman makes his own choices re: casting, especially for a gala in his honor. Remember when he and Alessandra Ferri were an item and she came back to dance with him? Now that's over because their relationship is no more.
  11. I love V actually as well as Empire Garden and Hard Nut.
  12. Well this makes me sad. Sarah shows up at many special occasions of her colleagues. For her to be a no show tonight speaks volumes.
  13. I'm reading this book now. It's a very good collection of interviews. Some of the stuff Danilova says can be found in "Choura" and the baby ballerinas are interviewed extensively in the film "Ballet Russes" but there's still plenty of good stuff here. The hand-to-mouth existence the dancers' describe so matter of factly seems shocking today.
  14. Yeah except Balanchine really makes me "see the music." With Mark Morris I see the same steps over and over again to one piece of music.
  15. Ok ... not trying to start a war here ... but does anyone who "gets" Mark Morris choreography explain the appeal? I recently saw his production of Orfeo ed Euridice at the Met and his choreography just about ruined the evening for me. I've seen many of his other works and my reaction is the same. What am I missing? https://humbledandoverwhelmed.blogspot.com/2019/10/orfeo-ed-euridice-dragged-to-pits-by.html
  16. Hmm more social media following: Luis Ribagorda (Sarah's husband) does not follow Herman either, and he follows every other ABT principal, including Misty Copeland, Stella Abrera, David Hallberg, Gillian Murphy, Isabella Boylston, Daniil Simkin, James Whiteside, Devon Teuscher, Christine Shevchenko, Veronika Part (former), Irina D. (former), Roberto Bolle (former), and numerous soloists like Cate Hurlin, Luciana Paris, Calvin Royal, Cassandra Trenary, Blaine Hoven, pretty much the entire company.
  17. I remember her posting a lot of Sleeping Beauty and Manon pix with Cornejo that now seem to be gone. Whatever happened seems to be significant enough for a social media scrub.
  18. On Herman's public-facing Facebook account he is not friends with Sarah either. https://www.facebook.com/herman.cornejo He is friends with a number of ABT dancers.
  19. Not that this means much but Cornejo has been absent from Sarah's Instagram for awhile now. And she's usually very effusive about posting about the fun times she has with colleagues.
  20. I might be in the minority but I haven't been so excited for an ABT spring season in ages. I like Fancy Free. A classic ballet ABT can actually do. Excited for the farewell of Abrera, seeing Abrera in R&J, the Lane/Simkin Giselle, Osipova and Hallberg in R&J, La Bayadere with Smirnova and Kim, and Catherine Hurlin's debut in Aurora.
  21. Then there was the time he cast Suzanne Farrell in the Patricia McBride role of Who Cares? which caused quite a dustup backstage. She danced one performance and then the idea was quickly dropped.
  22. Some dancers do grow into roles. I'll never forget the first time I saw Maria Kowroski dance Diamonds. This was over 15 years ago. It was a horrific performance. There were two major falls, one at the very end. She looked miserable. The next time I saw her she omitted the Scherzo and didn't even attempt some of the steps in the finale. Had I just packed it in on her right there and then I never would have seen her dance Diamonds with the kind of calm serenity she now exudes. I think a bigger issue at ABT is how it's hard to grow in a role with such a chopped up schedule. It's hard to grow in Giselle when you have one shot every two years.
  23. Alessandra Ferri and Natalia Makarova have been brought back to coach certain roles, and for Harlequinade Eddie Villela was also brought to coach. The dancers are also free to go outside for coaching, which wasn't the case at NYCB when Peter Martins was there. Not saying the coaching situation is ideal at ABT but it's different than the Martins era at NYCB.
  24. There is another earlier Apollo. The heel dancing is not as pronounced but it's definitely not on pointe either.
  25. Well she will be missed for sure. I loved her in a bunch of roles. Lise in Fille mal gardee, Lilac Fairy, Giselle. Really lovely, graceful dancer.
