Whiteside is now out with another knee injury (not the knee he injured a few years ago). I hope it’s not serious and he recovers in time for the Met season. Thank you. I’m happy for her, she’ll make a great Kitri. Her Mercedes is the best I’ve seen. It’s good she has so many guesting opps since her ABT load is so small (she’s not the only one these days, but she still wouldn’t be on their SL tour even if she wasn’t guesting with Twyla).

If she’s getting ready for next year she could be paired with Roxander who will (should!) at least be a soloist by then.

I saw that too and was curious. She’s not on the SL tour now so they could just be getting in extra coaching time and chose DQ to just work on something new. Trenary posted clips of her rehearsing a few short segments of O/O last year (one with Cornejo) and yet she’s never been cast. But, who knows. I’ve just learned to not get my hopes up. 😊

Gosh, this is surprising and sad news. I was so fond of her dancing. She’s been a strong and reliable dancer for many years and I thought she had at least a handful left. But, she must be ready for another chapter now (I hope it’s her decision). Frankly, I’d rather see a few other long time soloists leave instead.

Quotes from dancers Basmagy and Williams and a few anonymous dancers were both informative and disturbing to read. Anyone who wants more information about what is at stake and what the dancers have been dealing with should read this.

The KC run is completely sold out, so hopefully this will force their hand. Very sad and disappointing it had to come to this.

Um, definitely not a fan of his solo here. What was the cross-body fist bump with the “yay!” facial expression following a series of multiple pirouettes? Had he never completed that many pirouettes before and was so gosh darned proud of himself? And, way too many “strike a pose” moments that looked awkward at best.

I’m pretty sure it’s 36 weeks. I’m in shock that striking is now their only option. This is catastrophic. Wonder how many dancers will now find positions elsewhere.

Agree. And, ABT leaving CC was such a big mistake. Gorgeous theater and not a bad seat in the house, and so much more intimate (yet not tiny). Many ballets would simply look so much better there.

Completely agree. I can’t imagine Ailey would agree, they’ve played at CC in December for many, many years. And if they were “moved “ elsewhere because another company wanted that space I think there would be a massive public outcry (including from me).

As much as I really wanted to see ABT’s Nutcracker, I couldn’t talk myself into the commute. I live far out in Queens and like a lot of New Yorkers I don’t own a car. The subway from my apt to BAM would be well over an hour one way, and with the frequency of weekend subway construction and delays, I’d have to expect at least 90 mins and possibly longer. I’m sure I’m not the only one who wasn’t going to schlep that far to Brooklyn no matter how much they love the company.

I can’t believe there’s still no word on the contract negotiations. I’ve seen no posts from any of the dancers either promoting their cause or otherwise. Could it have been quietly (and not publicly) resolved? But, if it was, there are STILL no promotions??
