Best Dance Performances 2023

ABT - Jake Roxander in everything he performed.

NYCB - Emma Von Enck in Rubies; Mira Nadon in everything.

Rite of Spring at the Park Avenue Armory with  a cast of dancers from Africa.

Lots of great performances this year, but most memorable from what I saw were: 

• Sara Mearns in everything but particularly Tchaikovsky PC2
• Mira Nadon in Stravinsky Violin Concerto and Concerto Barroco 
• Indiana Woodward in Sleeping Beauty
• Roman Mejia in Stars and Stripes
• Joseph Gordon in Donizetti Variations
• Tiler Peck and Chun Wai Chan in Symphony in C first movement
• Jake Roxander in Etudes and Giselle Peasant Pas

I didn’t see much this year, but concur that Jake Roxander at ABT gets first place for me: Giselle peasant pas, Mercutio, Piano Concerto No 1, Etudes (sadly I missed his Puck).

Second place at ABT goes to Chloe Misseldine for Myrtha and her debut in Ballet Imperial.

So many great performances this year. The ones that come to mind immediately are:

Sara Mearns and Tiler Peck in Tchai PC2. I felt privileged to have seen them both

Emma Von Enck in Rubies. What a star turn for her.

I'm sure I'll think of others.

2023 was my first year attending live ballet since 2019.  EVERY performance was the best.

But since I imagine few on Ballet Alert have heard of Airi Igarashi and still fewer have seen her dance, I will mention Igarashi's Sylph with Atlanta Ballet in Kobborg's production of La Sylphide.

Jake Roxander made the NYTimes list of breakout stars of 2023.  Too bad ABT won't give the guy a lead role.

I'm late to this thread, but I'd add Ashley Laracey in Emeralds. Agree with Mearns in Tchai PC2 and Emma Von Enck in Rubies.
