Becki Lee
On James podcast, Susan Jaffe mentioned a year from now at the Koch they would be doing a full length “Crime and Punishment” by Helen Pickett. Link to comment
nanushka
Thanks for the info. Was there any clarity on what "a year from now" meant? — i.e. their usual fall season (Oct 2024), or would this be a new spring engagement at the Koch? Edited April 16, 2023 by nanushka Link to comment
Becki Lee
No clarity. “Then a year from now, for the Koch….” (About 41 minutes in) Link to comment
Drew
That's a wow ! I have seen and admired PIckett's work, but Crime and Punishment is a heavy lift, and Pickett's work has not been much seen in New York, so she doesn't have an established reputation there. I think an ambitious commission of this kind is a risk worth taking.... but it is a risk. I will definitely try to see it! Link to comment
volcanohunter
Pickett has choreographed a full-length version of The Crucible for the Scottish Ballet which is coming to Washington in May. I appreciate that a stage play is easier to adapt than a novel. https://www.kennedy-center.org/whats-on/explore-by-genre/ballet/2022-2023/scottish-ballet/ In November the National Ballet of Canada will premiere Pickett's Emma Bovary, though that will be a one-act work and not strictly narrative. https://national.ballet.ca/Productions/Emma-Bovary-Passion Link to comment
