Just got home from my summer season trip and was already daydreaming about the next! Looked up Nutcracker dates and saw this info for next spring… While details are still being finalized, we can look forward to a repertory program that highlights the company’s artistry and athleticism. The program is scheduled to include: A new commission by ABT’s own Gemma Bond. Bond, as many dance fans will remember, created the roles of Columbine in Ratmansky’s The Nutcracker and Cinderella in Ratmansky’s The Sleeping Beauty. The winner of a 2018 Clive Barnes Award for Dance, Bond has choreographed three new ballets for ABT’s Choreographic Institute, as well as works for ABT Studio Company. A new commission by the very in-demand Kyle Abraham, who uses dance to explore issues of identity, history, and geography. Along with being a professor at the USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance and the Artistic Director of the contemporary dance company A.I.M, Abraham has choreographed works for The Royal Ballet, the National Ballet of Cuba, New York City Ballet, as well as solo pieces for Misty Copeland and Calvin Royal III. A brand-new production of Balanchine’s Ballet Imperial, performed to the music of Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 2. Known for his musicality and dramatic choreography, Balanchine is considered the father of American ballet. The award-winning designer Jean-Marc Puissant (last seen at our Of Love and Rage World Premiere) has created original sets and costumes.

I was just looking at my casting for a week from today (on the ABT website) and Thomas Forster is Dr. John Brown? Does anyone remember if that was originally Cory?

On James podcast, Susan Jaffe mentioned a year from now at the Koch they would be doing a full length “Crime and Punishment” by Helen Pickett.

I had previously asked a membership associate… ”Regarding the Gala - it is the opening night of our Summer Season, and it is also the New York premiere of Like Water for Chocolate. There is one cast being featured that night. There will be performance-only tickets available, just not in the orchestra…”

If guessing for opening weekend, do you think there is any way they wouldn’t give the premiere to Trenary/Cornejo? Then my best guess would be Park/Carmago Friday… Barring some really drastic shifts which could be the delay?

Sorry, one more gala question. (Not my world.) I think last year it was Don Quixote and a different cast for every act? Is that typical for gala night? Would they do that with a new ballet?

Could change but Herman is already listed for the Giselle at Wolf Trap in late July.

Misty was on James podcast and said Dec 2023 Nutcracker is her return target (which she noted will be four years since she was last on stage!) but then mentioned Romeo and Juliet and Giselle the following Spring.

A little random, but can anyone tell me what it’s like to go to a performance on a gala night? Does it feel regular (especially for a very regular person like me! :))?? I am a teacher with a short window between school and summer school!
