PeggyR
Congratulations to all, especially Bay Area favorite, Yuan Yuan Tan. (I like the press release description of her as 'otherwordly': very apt.) Link to comment

pherank
Check out the link above to the press release -- it's got a list of former winners. Such a pleasure to think about them! The order of selection was interesting to me too - in 1957 we see Lucia Chase and Jerome Robbins selected, the next year Gene Kelly, the next year Astaire and Balanchine. I assume these selections had as much to do with popularity in a particular year as lifetime achievements. The very first year of the awards was all about dance on TV (so it had a different purpose in the beginning). Link to comment
sandik
To me, it looked like the first ten years or so was just trying to recognize everyone they could, though I'm sure that some of the timing had to do with specific events. (when were the first broadcasts of Balanchine's Nutcracker telecasts?) Link to comment
PeggyR
Highlights (well, 4 1/2 minutes of them) from the Awards. Brief glimpses of Bouder in ‘Square Dance’, and Ferri (those feet!) and Cornejo in ‘Cheri’. Link to comment
Paul Parish
Thanks for those highlights, Peggy R. I did not expect YuanYuan Tan to be a contralto. Link to comment
