  1. I have been trying to find information about Par Isberg and his choreography. In particular the ballet "Tale of a Manor". There is a dvd of it but I would like to know more about the choreographer and the ballet before I buy it. Is anyone familiar with his work? How would you describe Isberg's choreography? Could someone write a little about the the Royal Swedish Ballet?
  2. Have you tried following up this lead at the Dance Film Archive? They mention a 16mm film available for rental. I don't know what their conditions of rental are.
  3. Hello Richka, I have only seen three recorded performances of Grigorovich's Spartacus and have been unable to find the early recording with Ekaterina Maximova as Phrygia. To have seen the original cast live.... If you have time could you write more about how you react to this ballet? What you think of the choreography... Grigorovich as a choreographer... Memories of seeing the original casts...
  4. Hi pasmaroo, I hope you have time to write a post after you go to Swan Lake with the Imperial Russian Ballet.
  5. Thanks for recommending Dark Days. It is one of those films that pulls you out of the day to day mindset it is easy to fall into and makes you confront some of the realities of life. I was disappointed to see the film maker has not made another documentary. He tried to do one on soldiers in Iraq but it didn't come off.
  6. Leonid, did you know Helpmann? What do you think of the Salter biography?
  7. Here is Robert Helpmann's take on the topic.... When asked "Would the fashion for nudity extend to the dance?" Helpmann replied, "No. You see there are portions of the human anatomy which would keep swinging after the music had finished." page 213 Helpmann by Elizabeth Salter
  8. I am so glad you think so too, Bart Here is an informative essay about Esambayev. I have also written to the youtube uploader of the clip hoping this was taken from a dvd.... but he had no more information. I found out about the dvd of Swan Lake that Esambayev is in (as Rothbart) while looking for filmed performances of Valery Panov. And after watching the entire ballet on youtube I just got so excited because I fell in love with the ballerina Yelena Yevteyeva. I have ordered the dvd and it can't come soon enough!

    Patrick Dupond

There is a six part on youtube called: "Patrick Dupond: le talent insolent". Unfortunately youtube doesn't have a subtitle service ;) for those of us without French. I was wondering, if anyone has seen this film, what the key points were.Is Patrick Dupond teaching now?
  13. It is wonderful that you do post information about those items. In the past the ones I have checked on have been snaffled up very quickly! Also, it is possible to get a PAL video converted into a video that is NTSC. Or if you can copy the PAL video to dvd you can then watch it on your computer.
  14. At the beginning of the year I bought, from the RAD website, a video of Mime Matters that was NTSC. Just checked and they have now removed the video from their website. Maybe they are thinking of bringing out a dvd version in NTSC.

  16. What was 'The Real Dirt on Farmer John' about, innopac - the meat producer? The Real Dirt on Farmer John "The epic tale of a maverick Midwestern farmer. An outcast in his community, Farmer John bravely stands amidst a failing economy, vicious rumors, and violence. By melding the traditions of family farming with the power of art and free expression, this powerful story of transformation and renewal heralds a resurrection of farming in America. The film is a haunting odyssey, capturing what it means to be different in rural America. " "Defying all odds, he gradually transforms his land into a revolutionary farming community, a cultural mecca, where people work and flourish providing fresh vegetables and herbs to thousands of people every week. The Peterson family farm has become Angelic Organics, one of the largest Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) farms in the United States, a beacon of today’s booming organic farming movement." Angelic Organics
  17. As not everyone in BT is from the States I am using "foreign films" to include films from the US. Please move if you feel this is inappropriate... Two older documentaries I have found engrossing are Who the #$&% is Jackson Pollock? (2006) and The Real Dirt on Farmer John (2005).
  18. Thank you for that helpful information. There is a youtube with Vikulov and Komleva doing Les Sylphides but I wasn't sure if it was the same dancer. The question about the dates was because I was wondering about Kurgapkina's age in the performances.
  19. In the video, Ballet legends: the Kirov's Ninel Kurgapkina (1974), the following men are listed in the credits: Nikolai Kovmir Alexander Chistiakov Sergei Vikulov Vadim Budarin In another thread it is mentioned that Kurgapkina dances Harlequinade with Nikolai Kovmir and Le Corsaire with Vadim Budarin. Does anyone know who her partner is in the remaining selections? Don Quixote Waltz by Richard Strauss Waltz by Shostakovich Also, would anyone have any idea about roughly what were the dates of these performances?
  20. "French principal dancer injured in Brisbane stage fall." Article in The Australian. "Producer Leo Schofield said: "You can't move people when they've had a fall like that. You just have to leave him until the paramedics come and he's stretchered out. The cast was waiting in the wings to come on for the final tableau, but they made the decision not to try to move him."
  21. I can't access this site anymore. Does anyone know if it is gone permanently?

  23. I have been told that Zotero is a great new tool that will help organize your web pages, pdfs and library searches. From a brief look at the google search "Zotero vs Endnote" it looks like some students and researchers are switching from Endnote to Zotero. Zotero is free. It also allows you to save web pages and add attachments or searchable notes to your bibliography. Have just downloaded it to try it out. It may be the way to add some order to all the notes for future reading I have been gathering from BT Here is an introductory tutorial and here is the Zotero website.
