  1. I was just in Detroit last weekend to see the Kirov, and I saw a large spectrum of dress. It was a matinee, but I saw satin opera coats, little girls in taffeta party dresses. I saw alot of suits, personally I wore one also. I think your suggestion would be appropriate. [Edited by moderator to remove quote of entire previous post.]
  2. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I was at the Sunday performance and there were alot of little kids, and there was alot of"I am tired" whining going on during the last intermission. So I could see where people may have left early. It was long but I really enjoyed the performance, even though I am not sure who danced what roles.
  3. The casting insert on the Berkeley program last night listed the following changes from the Berkeley website: Irma Nioradze is being replaced by Novikova (Aurora) and Esina (Lilac Fairy) Shkliarov is partnering Sonova in place of Fadeev, who is replacing Igor Kolb in another performance Vostrotina is replacing Pavlenko as Lilac Fairy Ostreykovskaya replaces Pavlenko as Florina. It looks like similar casting will make its way to Detroit. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I may try to get a Detroit paper today, as the online additions of the Free Press and News just have the usual stories of the history of the ballet and company, plus stories about the local extras. Nothing on casting.
  4. I'll keep my eyes open for anything in the Detroit papers. Thanks to reading this MB, I know Kirov castings are not carved in stone, so I just picked the performance that worked well for me. Though Ardani "says" Diana V and Lopatkina are cast, I am not going to get go nuts if they are not.
  5. No casting is listed on the Detroit Opera House website. I have tickets for the Sunday matinee performance. I have been checking the Detroit papers, but no stories yet on the Kirov.
  6. There was a small profile of Michelle in the Saturday Wall Street Journal. Highlighted the fact she was just promoted. Perhaps she is off for the fall learning Manon for the spring?
  7. Marc, I think that is probably wise advise. I've sort of been toying with the idea of traveling from NJ to Detroit, I'd like to see Visneva/Zelensky/Lopatkina, but I'm thinking it's a long way to travel for something so chancy. And It's not like I'd like to see the Sergeyev version for it's own sake. It can understand why some love it , but I'm not one of them. Richard <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I want to see the same cast as you in Detroit, but I am going to role the dice since I only live an hour from downtown Detroit.
  8. To the parents. Something's gotta give. Some people refuse to understand that if they have children, they either have to curtail their ballet going (as I do) or pay a ton of money for babysitting. I think it's got to do with society's obsession with self-fulfillment at any cost. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I saw ABT in Cleveland on a Saturday night, quite a few toddlers in the audience, but very well behaved. I was rather surprised as I would not have taken my 4 year old. He can barely sit through kid's movies during the day. It's not only at the ballet, but I see the same behavior at movie theaters. I couldn't believe the number of young children at an 8pm showing of the Aviator this past winter(very loud and much walking the kids around).
  9. Good for Michele! The Royal announced Edward Watson's promotion to principal separate from the others, so maybe ABT is doing the samething.
  10. I saw Corella dance Swan Lake in Cleveland in March and thought he was not quite as hammy as when I saw him live. I really liked him better with Gillian than Paloma.
  11. Oh, they cannot cut the most important scene!! - Herman Cornejo w/his sister, Erica & Reyes (if I remember correctly). We'll see tomorrow night Thank you everyone for info. Now it seems that DVD will be on sale tomorrow, too. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I am looking forward to seeing Gillian and Angel. I saw SL in Cleveland in March with the same cast other than Paloma danced the lead. Herman,Erica and Reyes were great.
  12. I saw Paloma in Cleveland in March, I decided to see her and Angel instead of Gillian since she'll be on PBS. I think Julie did opening night so she didn't dance on the weekend, would have loved to seen her.
  13. I am a new poster, but have lurked awhile. Just wanted to thank you for your great reports from St. Petersburg. I am just excited about seing the Mariinsky in Detroit. Even more so that they are not doing Swan Lake or Giselle!
  14. I am glad to see Paloma hit her fouettes in LA, I saw her in Cleveland and she was all over the stage and fell out at the end. I am a newbie here, and don't get to see much in Toledo,OH. Made the road trip to Cleveland and stayed in the same hotel as the company.
