Just a few days ago at the news coneference for Sadler Well's upcoming season Polunin criptically complained about unwillingness of "big theaters" to let him and Osipova dance together. Well, it is quite obvious now which "big theater" he had in mind.

Yes, originally her partner should have been Hallberg, so I can understand her reluctance at dancing with an unfamiliar partner. She is recovering from an injury at the moment, did she not want to risk further problems in a ballet notorious for its intricate pas de deuxs that have caused injuries in the past?

Coviello is not an unfamiliar partner to Osipova. Besides Manon she dances R&J and Swan Lake with him.

There is an official source that states that choice of partner influenced Osipova's decision in this case. Polunin's press conference remarks were reported in the press and cited earlier.

An official source is needed for any discussion of roster changes, past and present.

I don't find the Polunin remark crystal clear either. (Who knows what the Royal or Bolshoi have said about having Polunin and Osipova dance together?) For the rest, I don't begrudge Osipova preferring to dance with certain partners, though one could wish companies, her management, and she herself would get on the same page about it when an originally scheduled partner cancels. However, I don't assume that the fault is hers. Actually, don't particularly have an opinion about 'fault.' I always thought these performances were a question mark despite La Scala's advertising. Of course, people who bought tickets to the performance have a right to their disappointment and irritation. That is, those feelings are understandable--I would feel the same.

Most professional dancers are flexible enough to dance with unscheduled partners when their scheduled partner is injured. The professional thing to do is proceed with another partner out of respect for your audience and your fellow dancers. For me, if Osipova is cancelling due to a partnering complaint rather than an injury, it is just another aspect of her diva persona. It's not like she was rehearsing Manon with Hallberg for weeks and then was suddenly thrust into a new situtation with a new partner. Hallberg's cancellation has been known for a very long time, even if it was only offically announced a few weeks ago. He has not danced since July 2014.

I'll also add that Polounin's cryptic remark might also be a reference to ABT. Last year for Osipova's Giselle there was a TBA for her partner for a time due to Hallberg's ongoing injury. It's not far fetched to contemplate that she attempted to advocate for Polounin but was told no by ABT. She danced that performance with McRae.

As Dreamer has already pointed out, Osipova had danced Manon with Claudio Coviello before.

Since Sarah Lamb will be appearing at La Scala for the first time, presumably she and Coviello have not danced together previously.

On December 1 and 2 Osipova is scheduled to dance Giselle at the Bolshoi, with Denis Rodkin, not Polunin.
