Syzygy
Just saw a piece about American National Ballet in Vanity Fair and am counting down the hours until I'm done working and can read it: https://www.vanityfair.com/style/2021/09/when-doug-and-ashley-benefield-started-a-ballet-company-it-wasnt-supposed-to-end-in-death?utm_source=The+Dance+Edit&utm_campaign=4915771c52-TheDanceEdit20201119_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_71d672be74-4915771c52-70139338 Link to comment
California
I read this. I feel so sorry for the dancers who were told to sign one-year leases at a pricey new apartment complex but were let go long before those expired. And missed the next audition season just in time for COVID! Link to comment
Balletwannabe
Wow, being unfamiliar with most of this story (besides the ballet company falling apart), this is a thrilling murder mystery...too bad it's not fictional. Edited September 4, 2021 by Balletwannabe Link to comment

About halfway through the article I thought "OMG what a deliciously lurid miniseries this would be!" That being said, I hope no one goes there out of respect for the parties involved, particularly Doug Benefield's daughter—judging from her tiktok posts, she's in considerable pain. Link to comment
On Pointe
I watched the 48 Hours piece about the Benefield case tonight, and found it oddly uninformative. Ashley Benefield has been charged with murder, but she's out on bail and her trial won't occur for months. Meanwhile there are defendants all over the country charged with far lesser crimes who haven't been convicted yet, but they've been languishing in jail for years. There were some nice visuals of the dancers though. Link to comment
