Thanks for the link to your Oklahoma review -- I haven't been following along with this production and it does indeed sound very distinctive. 

"what was the symbolism of all the falling boots from the ceiling?"

Not sure, but perhaps a reference to men keeping their boots/shoes on when they visit a brothel?

And thanks for the clip of Damon Daunno singing Surrey With the Fringe On Top. Seems to have a wider, and more adventurous, range than a lot of Broadway singers, as evidenced in this sequence from Hadestown (which got a thumbs up in the Wall Street Journal today):
