pherank
A recent announcement from SFB: SF Ballet Announces Two Spring Tours Following the 2019 Repertory Season in San Francisco, the Company will travel to Sadler's Wells in London (May 29 – June 8) where they will perform four mixed repertory programs including select works from the 2018 Unbound festival, Scarlett's Hummingbird, and Ratmansky's Shostakovitch Trilogy. Then they'll head to Ballet Sun Valley (July 5 – 7) where they will perform a gala-style program and a mixed repertory with specific programming to be announced. The Sadler's Wells programming is a mix of Ratmansky's Shostakovich Trilogy and Unbound Festival short pieces. Has Shostakovich Trilogy been seen in Britain yet? That's an excellent modern ballet. I"m not sure why, but Mathilde Froustey is featured in both the photos for the Ballet Sun Valley. 😉 I"m sure Mathilde will be sharing the spotlight with other principals. Josette
What a shame that SFB misspelled their excellent dancer Mingxuan Wang's name as Wuan. (Hoping for a correction.) Link to comment
Josette
I just went online to check casting and discovered that Mingxuan Wang is dancing Concerto Grosso this Friday. I'm glad to see him getting this opportunity. Wei Wang is no longer dancing Concerto Grosso, but he is dancing Grand Pas Classique, instead of Vito Luiz. Vitor Luiz is dancing The Fifth Season instead of Aaron Robison. Robison is still dancing Danielle Rowe's Unsaid with Sofiane Sylve. Principal dancer Jaime Garcia Castilla is no longer on the roster. I have not seen an "official" announcement, except now his name is no longer listed on the website, so I guess we can call that "official." I will never forget his brilliant performance in Eden Eden and was a devoted fan of his ever since. I'm so glad I saw him this past season in Appassionata Sonata. Wishing all the best to him in his new endeavors. Edited July 1, 2019 by Josette Link to comment

Wishing all the best to him in his new endeavors. Very sorry he’s no longer on the roster. He was promoted to principal in 2008, around the time I started attending SFB regularly, and I vividly remember his beautiful performance in Tomasson’s ‘7 for 8’. He seemed disappear for a while, and it’s only in the last few years that I’ve seen him with some regularity, always for me kind of a special occasion. All the best to him in the future. pherank
I think Castilla has struggled with physical issues for quite some time. He was courageous to keep returning to perform, and he will be missed. Link to comment

pherank
Here's an Instagram posting by SFB with picture of Helgi Tomasson and Queen Margrethe -https://www.instagram.com/p/B4S2El-jn_2/ "Magical dance connections in Copenhagen: Queen Margrethe II, Denmark’s reigning monarch, attended the opening night of SF Ballet’s Romeo & Juliet in Copenhagen. In addition to being a devoted ballet fan, Queen Margrethe II has designed costumes and sets for ballets at the Pantomime Theatre of Tivoli Gardens since 1991—including a production of Cinderella choreographed by SF Ballet choreographer in residence Yuri Possokhov. SF Ballet Artistic Director & Principal Choreographer Helgi Tomasson spent a summer as a teen studying ballet in Copenhagen and dancing at Tivoli Gardens, an experience he says convinced him to become a dancer."
