belleny
I would like to purchase several full-length ballet performances on DVD. ABT's Swan Lake is one choice - what others would you recommend? Thank you. Link to comment
volcanohunter
I would highly recommend the Australian Ballet production of Coppélia, which is practically perfect in every way (except for the viola soloist in the pas de deux). But if possible it's better to purchase the European release on the Opus Arte label, from its Faveo series, rather than the North American edition on Kultur. It's a better transfer, and the disc is much easier to use. It's an all-region NTSC DVD, so you'll have no trouble watching it in North America. http://www.opusarte.com/details/OAF4019D#.VsYrGNzHR8E Link to comment
pherank
The Mariinsky Ballet's Swan Lake with Uliana Lopatkina as Odile/Odette is well producedGiselle by Royal Ballet with Natalia Osipova and Carlos AcostaFor George Balanchine ballets, we do have the full length Jewels available on DVD - danced by the Paris Opera BalletAnd Pacific Northwest Ballet has a production of Balanchine's A Midsummer Night's Dream I think the NYCB version is out-of-print. There is also a performance of Sleeping Beauty available that is danced by Paris Opera Ballet - many of the same dancers that were in Jewels participate. This is an expensive, sumptuous production. The costumes are gorgeous and the dancing is fab. Link to comment
