Farrell Fan
At NYCB, Suzanne Farrell is most remembered for her partnerships with Jacques d'Amboise and Peter Martins. But she danced with several other partners there, most memorably for me, with Afshin Mofid in the Robbins "Afternoon of a Faun." Any unusual ballet pairings that you remember fondly? Link to comment
cubanmiamiboy
Oh, yes...the pairing of Lorna Feijoo and Maximiliano Guerra in Havana around 2000. It was the Closing of a Ballet Festival, and midnight already, and they danced Diane&Acteon. They brought the house down, and it has been, 'till today, one of the most memorable partnerships i've ever seen. Link to comment
carbro
One of my favorite unusual pairings was Patty McBride dancing the Second Movement of Brahms-Schoenberg Quartet. What made it so special were the lifts, where the man holds the woman at full height over his head, gives a little toss, and catches her in a swoon near the floor. His extra height made those moments so thrilling. Link to comment

He was an amazing partner for every ballerina with whom he danced. I found him irreplaceable in things like 2nd movement Bizet, Liebeslieder, Emeralds and Monumentum pro Gesualdo. Link to comment

As careful readers of this forum may have gleaned, I've been critical (sometimes supportive but more often critical) of Peter Martins. Must have been a Freudian omission. Thanks, Marga. In my experience, McBride's usual partner in B-SQ was her husband, Jean-Pierre Bonnefous. Link to comment
popularlibrary
Here are links to four photos (by Jennie Walton) of the Brahms-Schoenberg duet with McBride and Ludlow: http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa314/p...t-mcbride-1.jpg http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa314/p...t-mcbride-3.jpg http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa314/p...t-mcbride-4.jpg http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa314/p...t-mcbride-5.jpg I don't remember that McBride danced this with Bonnefous, though I do remember them in Who Cares? and Dances at a Gathering, among others. When did you see them Carbro? - I had to stop going by 1975, but I would have been fascinated to see them together in that. Link to comment
carbro
Your second link is the moment I referred to. http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa314/p...t-mcbride-3.jpg and your third the "catch." http://ballettalk.invisionzone.com/index.p...mp;#entry233848 Thanks, pop! I started attending NYCB sporadically around 1973. I had the bug, but it wasn't until I got a (literal) day job that I was able to go regularly -- around '78. Ludlow was at the very end of his career at that point. Link to comment
