Helene
From the Washington Post, the news that James Doohan, Scotty of Star Trek fame, died at home this morning: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...5072000929.html I didn't realize he lived in Redmond, WA, just across the lake from Seattle, and keeping with his Pacific Northwest roots. (He was from Vancouver, BC.) Link to comment
dirac
Sorry to hear it. However, judging by his illnesses, it may have been something of a release. Link to comment
lampwick
They're going to send some of his ashes up in a rocket. He wanted to be in space, like Roddenberry. Interesting tidbit...the line "Beam me up Scotty" was never actually used in the series. It was always "Mr.Scott, beam me up" or "Beam me up Mr.Scott" I always loved Star Trek. dirac is right, altzeimer's is horrible for the person who's suffering, as well as for thier loved ones. My Nana had a STRONG heart and held on for over 10 years. It wasn't pleasant for anyone. Very much the long goodbye. Link to comment
Gina Ness
Huge original Star Trek fan here, too...His character on the show was so unique and he played it so well. He will be missed by his family and his many fans...I saw a bumper sticker once that read, "Beam me up, Scotty. There's no sign of intelligent life down here." I searched high and low for that bumper sticker! I never found it... Link to comment
PetipaFan
What I remember about Scotty was that he had the most wonderful smile...he seemed to have the greatest affection for Captain Kirk! I never watched the new series the old one was great though... Link to comment
