Guest Bronxfan
I came across an article on the net a while back - I can't seem to find it right now - but the author was naming the 5 greatest ballerinas in the world right now. This was his list: Bussell Cojocaru Ferri Guillem Pietragalla What do you all think? Not one Russian is on this list which surprises me. Anyone else care to make up a list? Link to comment
sylphide
Who and where is this author from? In my humble opinion, he has (to the very least) probably forgotten Lopatkina. Link to comment
nysusan
and Pavlenko. Possibly also Ananishvilli... Link to comment
carbro
No Russians -- or Americans, either! I think Wendy Whelan belongs on that list. I question Alessandra Ferri's presence there, given the extremely limited rep she dances now. Link to comment
Lovebird
I certainly wouldn't put Pietragalla on a list of great ballerinas. Even when she was really dancing at POB her repertoire was limited, she really isn't a classical ballerina in the true sense of the word, Aurora, Odette, are roles that were never suited to her. Actually, that list is very questionable. Link to comment
perky
That list seems very..............ENGLISH. Is that where the author hails from? What I would like to see some day is a book on the order of Gennady Smakov's The Great Russian Dancers. Maybe it could be called The Great Western Dancers. A book that includes British, American and European dancers. Link to comment
