Alexandra, I heard one of Docents in her intermission talk once explain that there's a formula, and the bulk of the rep is Balanchine, Robbins and Martins get 8 ballets each, and if there are new ballets from the previous season by other choreographers, those ballets usually get a second season. (This was before Wheeldon became resident choreographer, so I don't know how his growing presence affects the formula.)

In addition, for the ballets that comprise the company's rep, they are performed in a steady rotation of three seasons in, three out. So if you miss "Serenade" desperately, fret not, for it will be back within a year and a half.

Fanfare is back - that's nice. Lots of Martins and that rotten Eifman. Lot's of Wheeldon too, compared to how many he usually gets. And two new ballets.

I checked some Winter rep. from a few years ago - the average was about 25 Balanchine - so that's down. I hope that's not a trend

Actually in the last few years, the Gala has been presented on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. Nutcracker traditionally starts the day after Thanksgiving. Best guess: Winter rep. will start on Jan. 4, the first Tuesday after New Yr.
