silvy
I wonder if anyone of you know what Martine is doing nowadays - if she is teaching,or whatever. From the videos I have seen, I guess she was a first class ballerina - she possessed that "prima ballerina" quality I have not seen much in ABT's present day principal ballerinas (excepting perhaps Susan Jaffe, Ferri and Ananiashvili) Would love to hear that her talents are not lost!! silvy Link to comment
carbro
Oh, yes, Silvy! Martine was indeed a "first class ballerina"! She is now involved with the Kaatsbaan Dance Center in Upstate New York. Link to comment
zerbinetta
Martine is also studying voice & sings with choral groups. She is a mezzo soprano; wouldn't it be fun to hear her sing "Dark Elegies" (Kindertotenlieder) with ABT? She was unforgettable dancing it. Link to comment
carbro
That would be fun! But, Zerb, does ABT do Tudor? Link to comment
silvy
I thank all of you for the info!!!!!! Silvy Link to comment
glebb
Ms Van Hammel taught and rehearsed a pas de deux from Bayadere to the contestants of the NYIBC last summer. I think she is still involved with ABT as well. Link to comment
Paul Parish
SHe had another career, between ABT and the present, as a dancer in Nederlands dans theater III (the "older" group, which had a repertory of hteir own) -- I saw her here with htem i nSan Francisco a few years back and was once again tremendously impressed with her artistry -- she had everything, a wonderful instrument, a fine, complex sensibility, great intelligence, very good taste... dadof2dancers
Ms. van Hamel recently taught a class or 2 at Princeton Dance & Theatre. She may have been filling in for Susan Jaffe or perhaps a Master Class, I'm not sure. I am sure, that my daughter loved her class! Link to comment
