  1. And how about Edward Villella's Prodigal Son? Real interesting about being a guy loving ballet back when he was a teenager-and all the challenges.Even more interesting later years-and enlightning on how he passes his teachings on now.
  2. I am a mom but would like to inquire if anyone has had Claude Bessy as a teacher-what her class is like. Please post this only if you think fit. Thanks!
  3. I also caught the Trocs on Bravo and was able to grab my daughter to check out the Swan lake part she had done recently(done a bit differently)!.Don't you all wish there were more ballets televised-as often as ball games!!!;)
  4. AT, I saw your review in the Post. Now I'm really curious to see it for myself! I'll be seeing it in a few weeks-know there won't be live Sweet Honey, but hope for a live pianist! It's always interesting to see what Septime Webre's up to.Will have to compare notes after I see it.
  5. Now I'm curious to see just how different the dancing will be.Planning to get tickets.
  6. I dance because it's one of the most up,perfect feelings of beauty and expression I can feel.I am a musician(pianist) and I also love singing.Dancing is part of this musical soul,I guess!I have studied ballet for my whole life and I'm in my forties and I'm sure I'll dance till I can't!My whole family is musical and we have a dancing home!I know many dancers will tell you they just have to do it!
  7. What's good at ballet today?Hmmmm...The good news is,aside from some wonderful new dancers,it's really good to see young people seeing ballet, and there's plenty of different choice for one to watch.But....I worry about the arts in general in America..
  8. How about discount dance stores(like the catalogues)-one could pop in and purchase those tights, shoes, etc. and walk out with a twenty percent savings!!
  9. I'm looking forward to catching Washington Ballet with Sweet -Honey in the Rock-sounds interesting!!
  10. Leigh,What a great question to ponder! As a pianist I see many technicians-meaning perfect technique, but darn it-put some soul into it!Some ain't got it!Do you know what I mean?Same could be said of dancers.Have you seen someone with great, precise footwork, etc, but something just doesn't spark? That's it.It's that little extra quality.
  11. Alexandra,American Repetory Ballet(New Brunswick,NJ based)has a new director who's taken on some big changes. He announced from the get-go that audiences won't be seeing any tutu ballet,as he put it.Yes,as you say,the dancers are changing-very different body types, the repetoire more contemporary, etc. The reviews have been raving, but time will tell. The traditional Princton audience in the past has looked forward to the classics and this is very different. What you were talking about sounds just like this.Time.
  12. As Leigh says,if you request that telemarketers don't call again legally they shouldn't.Even if it is a rare time when I actually listen-if it's an otganization I would support-I ask them to mail it out.Best is to hang up!
  13. So glad to see a special section for music for ballet! When I watch a ballet(or a movie for that matter)I will be affected so much by the music.Sometimes I love what my eye sees but wish I could change the music! And when it's Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet, or anything Tchaikovsky-it's already points ahead. When it's a perfect combination of beautiful music and choreography and dancing(A lark Ascending)-that's the best.
  14. I've seen "The Wild Thing's" and enjoyed it very much-I'd compare it to the movie"The Royal Tennanbaums" meaning it's way out there!Visually amazing with absolutely huge, dancing figures, and the score made me giggle-it depends what you like.I found it very fresh(like Septime Webre).Different-certainly check it out.

    Molly Daly

There's a ballerina named Molly Daly who danced with American Repertory Ballet(I also spotted her with Dance As Ever,I believe)who is so beautiful-dances with the ease of an angel!
  16. Heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with everyone at this tough time.Show your American flags and keep the faith.Bless us all!
  17. I'd possibly see the Universal Ballet to check it out but I certainly wouldn't send my daughter to a summer program at their school(I almost did).At least you should get more informed about Moon and how a certain behavior is expected from the Kirov students. You know-cults do pass on certain expectations. That's the plan! You can check out danceart.com. and other sites on the web.
