Het Nationale Ballet (Dutch National Ballet) posted to its Facebook page that Sofiane Sylve will return to the company for the 50 Years Gala on 13 September in Amsterdam.

Thanks for this, Cristian! "Sarah's Key" just made it here, and I hope "Unter Bauem does too. The Vancouver International Film Festival is coming up soon, and this looks like the kind of film they might show. (Still trying to figure out when you sleep...)

Alice Cao also danced this summer with Arizona-based Convergence Ballet Company, whose Artistic Director, Jennifer Caferella is faculty at School of Ballet Arizona, and which consists mainly of dancers with Arizona connections: Preston Dalton (early training in Phoenix, University of Arizona, apprentice with Ballet Tuscon), Belinda Irving (Terpsicore Dance Company), Emily Oppelt (University of Arizona), and from Ballet Arizona Ryland Early, Carolyn (Reardon) Marshalsay, Zherlin Ndudi, Alice Scott Trumbell, and Roman Zavarov. Ballet Arizona's David Marshalsay was one of the choreographers this year, as was School of Ballet Arizona faculty member Kevin Jenkins and local Highly Qualified Teacher, dance teacher, and choreographer Tracy A. Marion.

Weren't the original Wilis distinguished by some kind of national symbol? Marian Smith or Doug Fullington (or maybe both) mentioned that some of the music for the Wilis' ballet blanc had national flavor.

The University of Washington rarely has ballet companies in its World Dance Series. Cal Performances at Berkeley has ballet companies in some seasons. Last year they had RDB; this year there are none. Last year they also had Sylvie Guillem in Eonnagata.

Bumping this up -- tomorrow is the opening! I hope someone will be there and report on this great event.
