  15. Very few ballet companies tour. It's a tricky thing for the bigger companies with orchestras to negotiate with the home orchestras to leave them home, and touring with them is a huge travel expense. National Ballet of Canada usually goes to Ottawa, where Federal money comes from, and, every few years, makes a foray west of Quebec/Ontario, recently with only part of the company. Ballet BC gets one of the western companies to bring a Nutcracker, a win-win since it's added to their subscription season. Joffrey Ballet and Royal Winnipeg Ballet used to be the companies that filled in the gap, travelling to smaller cities, with Joffrey visiting universities, I assume as part of their series. Alberta Ballet (Edmonton and Calgary) and Los Angeles Ballet have regular seasons in multiple cities, like Miami City Ballet does. Ballet Arizona has a free mixed program called Ballet under the Stars that they perform in about a half dozen parks in the Phoenix area in the Fall.
  16. More wedding bells, in July for Sarah Pasch and Ezra Thomson: congratulations to them both
  17. Welcome to Ballet Alert! orangerose! I hope you'll write about the visiting ballet company (or companies) you see.
  18. Many thanks for the reports, @mnacenani!
  19. It's interesting to see organizational loyalty at the top, given how strong theater and popular music are, where I'd think what and who would be the main drivers. I wonder whether popular music people tied this to following specific artists, or if they skewed low.
  20. As far as Ballet Alert! is concerned, if it's official news from an official source, it is valid to discuss here. Period. If you don't think it should be discussed, don't discuss it or the discussion.
  21. [Admin hat on] If you have a problem with a post, report it. Do not discuss the discussion. We may or may not share your sensitivities to what is written, but the Mods will review your report. Links to reviews do not belong in the company forums. If they are missing from daily links -- please give us a couple of days after publication -- please send @diraca PM, if you are a Member/Senior Member, or click the "Contact Us" link at the bottom and paste them into the post box, and we'll route them. If you want to discuss a review, please do so in the "Writings on Ballet" forum. [Admin hat off]

  24. Many thanks for the link, @millvillemurphs! I've only seen Jim Nowakowski once, a while ago, in a Houston "Nutcracker," but he was terrific. I was also wondering what Sean Rollofson was up to: he was wonderful dancer at PNB. I'm also glad to see that of the seven, one was promoted from BalletMet II: it's great when companies can develop their dancers.
