  1. What phone # did you call for the Bolshoi ballet tickets? Try to call this number: 212-721-6500. I called last weekend. The people, who answered my call, knew pretty well about the timing, price options and discounts.
  2. Too bad I missed it! I really like to see Lucia Lacarra's dancing in a full-length ballet like this. On YouTube I have seen few short ballet programs, e.g., Thais, Bolero, ..., in which she danced beautifully. Lacarra is a lyrical dancer, a Roland Petit's favorite. BTW, Solor Marlon Dino is her husband. Hope some people would have recorded and put it on YouTube.

  4. Thank you for the info! I found the DVD Ashton Celebration (2013) on AMAZON. I guess this is the right one and have ordered it. I would keep on hoping that the DVD of Osipovs & Vasiliev's D.Q. could soon be released by Bolshoi. Even if I were thinking with my bottom, I could see that publishing this DVD must be a huge commercial success. What is the Bolshoi theater calculating?
  5. It seems to be pretty common for ballet theaters to have different casting in advertisement trailers from the real dancers in broadcasting, e.g., Mariinsky's Swan Lake, Bolshoi's Lost Illusion, and again Royal's Sleeping Beauty. I did feel excited, when I saw Polunin in Royal's ads of Sleeping Beauty during the Royal's Swan Lake show. I am wondering whether or not there is the rule in ballet world, that is, if the dancer(s) left a theater, the official publishing of their performances with the theater would be shut down? The reason why I am asking this question is that I am still waiting for the DVD of D.Q. from Bolshoi's HD broadcasting, in which N. Osipova & I. Vasiliev danced. If that is the reason for Bolshoi to stop publishing the DVD, I would be very disappointed. I believe that it could be one of the best D.Q.s in history. Three years ago, they both were very young & energetic, unsophisticated, and in love; they matched the roles in D.Q. naturally; although they are more experienced dancers now.
  6. Got it! Many thanks, Helene!
  7. I failed to register @ dancers.invisionzone.com. The error message is The email address you used is not accepted by this community. Please select a different email address. That is ODD. The email for setting up an account at dancers is the same one I have used here. Then, I selected another email address, and got the same error message.
  8. Thank you for your hunting, everyone! I underestimated the difficulties to find this lady. I thought, maybe, someone in this forum could recognize her face and recall her instantly. Since mostly you could not read her name written in Chinese, I should tell her name in English Pronunciation. The six Chinese characters are 约艾尔 · 玛采特, pronounce: [jɔː-æ-er · ma:-zæ-tə]. I have googled and found a list of famous ballet instructors in France. I looked at the last names started with M, but there is no any one of the last names sounded similar to 玛采特 [ma:-zæ-tə]. Is she living in other European countries, not in France? I also left message on the NBA website to ask for her name in French spelling. However, I got no response, as usual.
  9. There is a short story on website of the National Ballet of China about her, a world-famous ballet instructor of French School. Last month she was training Chinese ballet dancers and helping them in rehearsals of related repertoire in Beijing. http://www.ballet.org.cn/news_detail/newsId=044c089f-3e94-4733-a8aa-29d72075693e.html%C2'> However, there is no her name in French or English, no any reference about her bio and other works in the article. Her name is written in Chinese characters, i.e., 约艾尔·玛采特. Does anyone know her name in French or English?
  10. Well, Bolshoi still cannot decide the casting in each show? Do I have to buy all three D.Q. and Spartacus performances, in case I will miss my desired dancers? They should simply send all of their best dancers over to N.Y., not thinking about that we, the people living in America, are just a bunch of illiterate and ignorant fast-food eaters.
  11. Yes, she moved to St. Petersburg to join Mikhailovsky. She is with Altynay Asylmuratova now.
  12. Did they say : North or South California? Very glad to have opportunity to see the new ballet stars at Mikhailovsky Ballet: Kristina Shapran, Angelina Vorontsova, Oksana Bondareva and others. See? She is indeed very talented. I feel happy for her to get out from cocoon with chance of flying and shining.
  13. Any info about Casting for Bolshoi Ballet's NY tour in July - August of 2014?
  14. I got an answer for my question. During one of the intermissions K. Novikova said that the original ballet scenario was done by Vladimir Dmitriev. Because he thought Balzac's Lost Illusions was relevant to his own life experience, that is why the ballet was made. Did she read my post to ask WHY Bolshoi made this ballet? -- That is the best part in Bolshoi's broadcasting of yesterday! I almost gave up this show. In the night before the show I watched a clip from performance of Jan. 31, I simply felt sleepy in few minutes. But, I was wishing some miracle would happen, my desired dancers would finally show up. OK, Bolshoi didn't disappoint me 100%. Finally, Vishneva flew in, at least, ... I enjoyed the ballet. (I wasn't sleeping at all!) I love to watch Diana dancing, her performance is always thoughtful. Lantratov threw himself into the role of Lucien. The story was told clearly with mime and dancing. The set designer made the bandits/peasants in Act III look like coming out from Millet's painting, sweet! However, IMO, there is little entertaining in this ballet, that is from Florine's Fouetté on table; but no touching story. The drama was not built up emotionally. I even consider BOLT is a better drama ballet, although Ratmansky said: BOLT is unfinished. Denis Savin is an excellent actor. In BOLT(DVD) he puts life into the role of Denis. Savin's performance, like a movie star, was very impressive.
  15. Maybe, many ballet goers were disappointed with Bolshoi's casting mess and didn't go? Anyway, I did. I was the only one audience in that showroom. Bolshoi should feel proud to have a loyal ballet-goer like me! (more later.)
  16. Great historical recordings! So much information. I watched on YouTube. Its English caption is written in good English, not machine translated.
  17. This is close : The Red Poppy: Darya Khokhlova (Golden Fingers variation) Copyright:© Dave Morgan From Russian Ballet Icons - Galina Ulanova Gala Rehearsals - Coliseum - May 2011
  18. This young ballerina caught my attention for her performance in La Fille Mal Gardee, the YouTube version. Then, I was very impressed by her Adeline on stage in Flames of Paris last summer at ROH. I just wish her my best. Four days in a row!? If she made it successfully, she is equal to an Olympic Gold medalist! Would she be promoted to a Principle? It seems to me that the casting of Lost Illusions was screwed up this time, from beginning. I don't know if Ratmansky is happy with that or not. I am afraid he would not like come back to Bolshoi soon in the near future. Hope, just hope, that Ratmansky would like to make a ballet WAR & PEACE with Bolshoi.
  19. Very good reference! ◦ Maya Plisetskaya in Laurentia ca 1959 ‣ Maya Plisetskaya in Don Quixote ca 1959 • Maya Plisetskaya in Fountain of Bakhshiserai 1959
  20. I would do some research on this topics when I got time. As I know at this moment, 1. the movie "The Fountain Of Bakhchisarai" was released in China as early as in late-50s or early-60s, before the "RED" ballet was produced; 2. in Peking Opera the kung fu dancers don't do Grand Jete in air, though, they do back head-kick, and keep another foot on ground generally. The term name "Back Golden-Crown Kick" is famous and sounds very beautiful in Chinese. Maybe, the choreographers of "RED" learned the head-back jete from classical ballet and named it in Chinese term?
  21. I would say that the Chinese ballet choreographers have closer relationship with Soviet ballet teachers than the figure skaters. After some people brought up the topics about head-kick jete in Chinese forum, I did some searching and found out that some of the choreographers of The Red Detachment of Women were actually trained by Soviet teachers in 1950s. There were few of them who even went to Moscow/St. Petersburg for years of studying and training. I would not believe that they had never gone to the theaters to watch Ulanova and Maya dancing when they stayed in Moscow/St. Petersburg. However, I really don;t know how The Red Detachment of Women was produced. I cannot tell exactly if or not Chinese choreographers were inspired by Maya's head-kick when they made that Chinese ballet, though, I do think they must be impressed by Maya's dancing. Anyway, I just post the photo and video to let them see Maya in The Fountain Of Bakhchisarai and Don Quixote.(1958).
  22. NO Bolshoi ballet HD-broadcast in theaters on Manhattan? That sounds bizarre! I am wondering why ...... One thing I have noticed is that some of the movie theaters, where I am used to seeing the artistic movies, foreign movies and etc., are really small and old. They may not have the modern digital HD trans equipments or capital to offer the show. However, the theaters that have the high-tech equipments may not be interested in ballet. Hm, What the hell is that? Ballet Lost Illusions? Never heard of this! ……
  23. Hi dirac, Thank you for the clip! As always, I am very happy to know more about the art, history and everything about ballet from you and other members in this forum. I learned the term "the Plisetskaya head-kick" from Jennifer Homans' review of the book I, Maya Plisetskaya. Here is a link to her article The Undying Swan: http://www.newrepublic.com/article/books-and-arts/79589/the-undying-swan By searching the internet, it seems like that this term is also used by other ballet critics in their review articles. Maybe, Maya made this “head-kick” jeté more shinning such that she gained the 'credit' ?
  24. As shown in the photos bellow, the leading ballerinas in Chinese ballet The Red Detachment of Women did the “head-kick” jeté : - In a Chinese forum some people were talking about the artistic achievement of Chinese modern ballet "Red Detachment of Women" and saying THIS “head-kick” jeté was evolved by Chinese choreographers from dances in traditional Peking Opera. It even has a Chinese name "Back Golden-Crown Kick". I told them: it cannot be originated by the Chinese choreographers, because Maya is famous for the “head-kick” jeté she did in Don Quixote and The Fountain Of Bakhchisarai, much earlier than the Chinese modern ballet was produced. This is known as “the Plisetskaya head-kick”. I am very curious to know the history of the Plisetskaya head-kick. Any other ballerinas did head-kick before Maya?
