Perfect Performer
I Have a question. What do Dancers do when they get the hiccups in the middle of a performance? I Mean, Sometimes it takes awhile before you can get rid of them and you don't want to drink to much water because that will make you have to go to the bathroom during the performance!! So what do you do? Link to comment
Andrew
I've never had this happen at dance that I recall, but at home the thing I use to get rid of them INSTANTLY is a teaspon of peanut butter. Try it, maybe will work for you (although carrying a jar along in your dancebag might be a bit much, lol). Link to comment
LMCtech
Having worked in theater and opera where hiccups can be even more detrimental I learned a whole repertoire of hicupp remedies. But I only witnessed it happen once. He suffered throught the scene and then drank a glass of water upside down once he got off the stage. Link to comment
dirac
Out of desperation I once swallowed several teaspoons of honey before a college performance of "A Streetcar Named Desire." It worked. Link to comment
Mel Johnson
One of the classics is a teaspoon of sugar on the very back of the tongue. Actually, almost all hiccup cures have something to do with trying to get the sufferer to burp, be it ever so slightly. The problem seems to be caused by an overabundance of carbon dioxide in the glottal area. A burp clears it. With this in mind, I once essayed to get rid of especially bad hiccups by chug-a-lugging a bottle of seltzer. After a particularly Wagnerian belch, I was fine. Link to comment
julip
i have to vouch for the peanut butter cure. i used to have such a problem with hiccups (resulting from being nervous) that i would keep jar in my dance bag (low-fat of course) Link to comment
attitude
What really works for me is to inhale deeply and try to hold my breath for as long as I can. The downside is if you can't hold it for long enough the hiccup comes back twice as loud. Link to comment
