I would much rather PNB chose a new-to-them “white” ballet. I would love to see Thordal Christensen stage the Danish La Sylphide that he did for LAB, Or Mark Morris stage the Sylvia he did for SFB. Or Alexei Ratmansky stage the Snow Queen he made for MCB. Any of these could be paired with MCB’s production of Balanchine’s Firebird (or Stowell’s version). The Stowell Swan Lake is beautiful. But like Blink82 songs, it gets played too damned much. Edited September 22, 2023 by Jayne Spelling & and parentheses Link to comment
volcanohunter
I'm not thrilled about it either. And having been decidedly underwhelmed by the Australian stream of "Diamonds" a few months ago, I'll pass on the same pair in Swan Lake. But I am also the worst possible indicator of the vox populi. volcanohunter
So far I'm not seeing any signs that the Australian Ballet is planning to stream performances in 2024. It may be that yet another company determined that the audience was too small to make the enterprise viable. Link to comment
