Fraildove Posted February 14, 2022 Share Posted February 14, 2022 Henry Danton, aged 102 passed away on Feb 9, 2022. His career began in 1939 and he was still teaching classes up until his death. He was a true legend and his death is truly an end of an era. Last year Danton talked about "The Sleeping Beauty" and the war years for this piece in The Daily Telegraph: Quote His weekly pay of two pounds 10 shillings was “just enough to manage”, but food rationing was still in effect. “Everyone in the company got sick. They brought in a doctor to test us, and he called it ‘Sadler’s Wells Disease’ – it was actually malnutrition.” Thankfully, there was “an angel” who ran a tea house in Soho, and “who somehow managed to get sugar, and make sweet things for us – keeping them specially for us dancers, who would run to her place after rehearsal.” Link to comment
