Choreographer Brian MacDonald has died.


Famed Canadian choreographer Brian Macdonald died Saturday at his home in Stratford, Ont. He was 86.

Macdonald was a member of the Stratford Festival company for 17 seasons, a founding dancer with the National Ballet and artistic director of the Royal Swedish Ballet, the Harkness Ballet, Israel’s Batsheva Dance Theatre and Les Grands Ballets Canadiens.

So Sorry to hear this news. I knew Brian when I was with the Harkness Ballet. My first job there as company chorologist was to notate Brian's "Time Out Of Mind" ballet. Others followed, "Firebird" was a magnificent version. RIP.

How very sad to hear this. Brian took me into the company ( Harkness) after a year of being a trainee at the school. Even though I was one of the youngest members, he gave me many opportunities from the start. I enjoyed dancing in his Firebird and the difficult Time Out of Mind. He always challenged you. RIP.
