PeggyR
More casts for Program 2. It's unusual for the casts to be posted so late, but with Zahorian out, I imagine there's a good bit of shuffling going on. PeggyR
An interview with Val Caniparoli, choreographer of Tears, world premiere on Program 2. Includes a video with some short performance clips. Link to comment
Helene
I wish I could see this program. I loved Caniparoli's "The Bridge," and I thought that most of "The Seasons" was terrific. I know it went east after being performed at PNB -- maybe Louisville? -- but it's been removed from PNB's active rep list, which was very disappointing. Link to comment
PeggyR
SATURDAY, MARCH 1—2PM TEARS Choreographer: Val CaniparoliComposer: Steve ReichConductor: Martin West Couple 1: Shannon Rugani, Ruben Martin CintasCouple 2: Julia Rowe, Shane WuerthnerCouple 3: Isabella DeVivo, Steven Morse Although I’m far from an expert on the subject, I’ve always liked what minimalist music I’ve heard. If you let yourself sink into it without distractions there are subtle rhythms, delicate shifts in the sound that can be very beautiful. I don’t think Caniparoli made much use of those subtleties, and his choreography (but not the music) quickly became a little monotonous. Not a good sign when the choreography becomes a distraction. Good performances from the second cast. FROM FOREIGN LANDS Choreographer: Alexei RatmanskyComposer: Moritz MoszkowskiConductor: Martin West Russian: Julia Rowe, Jaime Garcia CastillaFrances Chung, Vitor LuizItalian: Esteban Hernandez, Sarah Van Patten, Elizabeth Powell, Shannon RuganiGerman: Simone Messmer, Sean Orza*, Luke Willis, Steven MorseSpanish: Frances Chung, Esteban Hernandez, Sarah Van Patten, Vitor LuizPolish:Simone Messmer, Julia Rowe, Shannon Rugani, Elizabeth PowellJaime Garcia Castilla, Sean Orza, Luke Willis, Steven Morse Silly fun. Ratmansky keeps it mostly light hearted, with Simone Messmer bringing lush beauty to ‘German’, and Esteban Hernandez cheerfully flinging himself through ‘Italian’. BORDERLANDS Composer: Joel Cadbury and Paul StoneyChoreographer: Wayne McGregor Sasha De Sola, Sean OrzaSarah Van Patten, Tiit HelimetsKristina Lind, Luke WillisDores Andre, Daniel Deivison-OliveiraKoto Ishihara, Henry SidfordJaime Garcia CastillaElizabeth Powell, Francisco Mungamba Skipped this one. It was interesting to see once, but I don’t feel any compelling need to see it again. Giselle it’s not. Link to comment
