sandik
I'm going to see this tomorrow (Tuesday 20 March) -- anyone else planning to see it? Link to comment
Birdsall
Have you seen it before without the 3D? If not, prepare to see modern dance, not Swan Lake. I enjoyed it as a theatrical piece and as modern dance, but if I had gone expecting to see Petipa's choreography (except with men as the swans) I would have been really disappointed. Link to comment
sandik
I'm familiar with the work, and agree that it's not a variation of the Petipa/Ivanov work, but I do think it's a very successful dancework using those themes and characters. I'm very curious to see how the 3D camera work affects it -- so far I've had mixed experiences with 3D dance films. Link to comment
Birdsall
Let us know how it is. I had a friend who went to a 3D Carmen (opera), and he said it really didn't enhance the work in any way, but I would think dance would work better as a 3D venture. Link to comment
Helene
I thought the 3-D Mariinsky "Giselle" was weird: sometimes they looked 3-dimensional and sometimes they looked like cartoon characters dancing around cardboard. I haven't seen "Pina" in 3D, only in the home video version, which I liked a lot. Link to comment
