  1. It looks like they are inserting the Balanchine SL one act into every program that was supposed to have thel length. Additionally, in certain programs they are also adding in the Black Swan pas
  2. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/01/07/arts/city-ballet-delays-season.html City ballet is delaying the start of the winter season due to Covid. Wow, just reading through the entire article now and they are also making MASSIVE program changes. Season start date is now Jan 27. The full length SL is scrapped. No Diamonds either. The only consolation is that they are adding the one act Balanchine SL to the winter season.
  3. Good for Tiler. I always thought she would be a great fit for Rubies. With Lovette gone and Bouder possibly still on the injured list, they needed a new Rubies leading lady.
  4. The presence of Covid among the performers and stage crew is literally a day by day testing process. They could not have known last week whether the performances for this week would go forward. As frustrating as it is for us as audience members, imagine how frustrating it is for the company, crew and administration. Nut is their financial bread and butter, so I'm sure if there was a safe way of continuing the shows would have gone on. Here's hoping for a Winter Season at NYCB in 2022. Given the ever increasing Covid cases in NY City, I'm not so optimistic.
  5. No doubt Ms. Delgado can get work without Jusitn Peck. She is an acclaimed ballerina. The point of the article, though, was that she may not have been the right person for the job on the WSS film. Interesting that Trujillo was brought in for the Broadway production of WSS, insofar as Trujillo does have experience in staging Latin dance styles. I think he was nominated for a Tony Award for the Broadway musical On Your Feet, about Gloria Estefan's career.
  6. I think the article was an indirect insult to Peck by implying that nepotism and friendship here resulted in a less than stellar result. The article also mentions that Craig Salstein, who was a soloist at ABT and also has a background in tap dance, was the assistant choreographer. Again, the implication is that personal friendships here were paramount and the work product may have been diminished as a result. Maybe Peck would have been better off hiring a notable expert or instructor in Latin ballroom dance. I have not yet seen the film and will probably wait until it becomes available for streaming.
  7. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/12/24/arts/dance/west-side-story-dance-justin-peck.html Interesting article regarding Peck's choreography in West Side Story. I only skimmed it, but it was not exactly a rave. But I guess nobody could ever fill Jerome Robbins's shoes. I thought it was interesting that they noted that Peck brought in his wife - a ballet dancer of Cuban heritage - to consult on the Latin dance styles. The article makes the point that there is no perceptible distinction between the dance styles of the Sharks and the Jets.
  8. How was Hurlin How was Bell Hurlin and Bell Shevchenko.
  9. According to the NY Times, both performances of Nutcracker today at NYCB are cancelled.
  10. Sorry to hear this. I hope Whiteside's surgery goes well. ABT was already stretched thin. Who are they going to recruit to take all of Whiteside's assignments. Every male principal already has a lot to do.
  11. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/12/21/arts/dance/nutcracker-canceled-covid.html This article seems to indicate that tonight's Nutcracker is cancelled due to Covid. I couldn't find anything on the NYCB website about it.
  12. Yes, Mearns was cast in SL by Martins while she was still in the corps.
  13. I'm thinking they would pick Woodward before Gerrity, just because Woodward is a principal. I think that's why they used Lovette, who was clearly outside of her technique wheelhouse. Woodward could definitely handle the technical demands of the role, I believe.
  14. It's possible there won't be any O/O debuts in SL. The only reason Lovette got her debut in 2020 was because Hyltin was on maternity leave. There are 6 principal ballerinas who have performed the role: Reichlin, Hyltin, Fairchild, Peck, Bouder and Mearns.
  15. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/12/17/arts/dance/the-joyce-theater-spring-summer-season.html https://www.joyce.org/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIiYq6v9Ht9AIVdAiICR2Ltwd8EAAYASAAEgIrqPD_BwE The Joyce Theater announced its Spring/Summer 2022 season. Sarasota Ballet is returning with Ashton works in August. They are bringing Birthday Offering, among other works.
  16. I hope they cast Mejia with Peck in Swan Lake. They are a great pairing. I can't recall who her SL partner was during the last run of SL.
  17. Exactly what I was thinking. Trenary seems to be the new Sarah Lane. We'll see. McKenzie is leaving soon, so whoever is being shafted now may be looked upon differently by a new AD. I am definitely rooting for Hurlin's success. Very much looking forward to seeing more of Aran Bell, Shevshenko and Brandt.
  18. Looks like they have big plans for Katherine Hurlin. Sad to see that Murphy has given up Don Q, but I'm not surprised.
  19. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/12/15/arts/music/met-opera-coronavirus-booster-shots-mandate.html The Met Opera is going to require proof of a booster shot in order to enter the theater. I suspect other theaters are going to follow the same path pretty soon.
  20. I don't anticipate that Misty will retire in the near future. Gillian Murphy, however, is now the oldest woman in the company. I doubt she will continue more than one or two more seasons.
  21. This film was financially backed by Disney, so it will probably end up on Disney Plus. No info on streaming dates.
  22. I think Lauren Lovette's weaknesses were very apparent. Yes, she was very good in certain roles. However, management failed to also acknowledge her weaknesses. She was given roles that were out of her depth. Most particularly, I'm recalling things like coming off pointe in Sleeping Beauty, the disaster that was ACt III of Swan Lake and most recently, the fact that she could not do even one Italian fouette as required for her role in Western Symphony. I don't want to see dumbed down choreography at NYCB. We already get that at ABT, and it's a very bad precedent.
  23. Who was originally scheduled with Bell? Was it Hurlin? Hurlin has been injured for several months.
  24. Any info on why Sara Mearns is not cast and was replaced in all of her early Nut assignments?
  25. This morning Mayor DeBlasio instituted new rules for vaccination, including for kids entering theaters. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/12/06/nyregion/nyc-vaccine-mandate-deblasio.html Starting December 14 kids ages 5 to 11 have to have at least one dose to enter a theater. I'm not sure what NYCB was requiring before this mandate, but now management will be required to enforce this mandate.
