  1. "Crime". Like abortion, alcohol consumption, segregation laws, polygamy, prostitution practice, death penalty, euthanasia, political opposition, gay marriage, end of life of brain dead patients, sodomy laws, marijuana use and many more, this are all items that at one point have been considered or not crimes depending on the historical/geographical context, the legal , political and moral/religious ruling systems where they have developed and the individuals that have been in charge of writing the law guidelines. Or a bad one...in ALL cases...? (Of course, here the "all" item is what brings us to a general agreement. There's NOTHING definitive or rules without exceptions, as we all know...of course)
  2. re: "In this country 13 is a child"... let's see... First of all, I'm not IN ANY WAY justifying Polanski's illegal actions, nor defending him. I'm just trying to visualize and understand this whole "child vs. adult" theory which has been crucial in the development of this thread. Making that clear, let me say that we all probably agree on the fact that laws are made by human beings-(imperfect ones, as we all are)-, with absolute NO REAL CLUE of what the famous philosophical SUPREME TRUTH is, and who at certain point and degree may consider that what was legal today won't be tomorrow. History has demonstrated that what is-(or was, or was and then wasn't, or was, then wasn't and then was again)- "so and so in this country" is a CONCEPT that can be molded, and many items belonging to it have morphed quite a bit along the years, according to the mentality of MANY individuals, not necessarily the totality of the population of this country, this morphing process ending in what could potentially develop into a strong counterpart that may become the foundation of yet another future incarnation on the same item...the new "legal" thing, making the past form "illegal" automatically). Besides that, I must confess I may be talking from a very personal point of view, coming from a country-(consent age 16)- where one, as a teen-(from 11 years old on, and for the next 6 years of high school)- are to be send 45 days of the year to the country side, where the famous work/study concept is to be applied. This little story is to illustrate the fact that the majority of the girls there really looked forward for that to happen so they could be, among other things, finally liberated from the house control and be able to start developing their sexuality as they wanted. Along the years stories of many of my female teen classmates having their first sexual encounters with peers AND/OR PROFESSORS, everybody consenting and very clear of what the implications were-(abortion being legal and permitted to teens without the need of parenting consent and STD's not being that much of a big issue back then...)-were the most natural thing to listen to. If we were barbaric in our way of accepting all this without that much of a fuss-(and with its high doses of laughing and whispering)-we really didn't know...
  3. G: Like Spain-(13)..or Japan-(13)...? Uuh, just asking, if I may... Again, depending on how do we, individually, determine when and where does childhood ends. Can't ******* agree more, but again, depending on how rape is defined by a jury-(or by us, individually). What about a 48 with an 18...? -(you know...to get to the famous consent age...)
  4. Reading all this debate I wonder if the majority of the people are mad because Samantha Geimer-(hate that "girl" term...sorry)- was 13 and hence LEGALLY CONSIDERED a minor, vs. how horrific is the factual act of a 43 y.o having sex with a 13 y.o. I wonder how this same people would have reacted if the consent age was suddenly-(hypothetical example, of course)- lowered down to 13, or even 12 like some countries...Also...was Geimer really a "child"...?-(the "virginless" status makes me... ).
  5. Aren't you supposed to do your own homework?
  6. Yes. No No...I meant "lost" Waltz Academy... Seriously, rg...it could probably cause some damaging myocardial infarction to some of the Powers That Be members... "Oh...how she dared to do that..?!?!"
  7. Right...and the failing examples of all of the above are just about everywhere to be seen. The opposite would be the exception nowadays, IMO...
  8. Ah...how awful, Patrick. I own the De Larrocha's Mozart's Klaviersonaten CD, and have always loved her unique, personal approach on Mozart: light, clean, and beautiful, instead of making it too grand and overwhelming as other interpreters do. Such a little, cute lady she was. May she RIP .
  9. An Odile who struggles and finishes her 25/27 fouettes with her working leg at a 30 degrees angle...a Kitri that can't touch her leg with her head during her sissonnes, an Aurora that shakes and keeps falling off center between hands during the Rose Adage, a Giselle that can't raise on full pointe on her supporting leg to finish the last pirouettes at the initiation...etc...
  10. It is a SIN to make an exciting ballet otherwise boring and/or technically bland...(Quijote, for example)
  11. Exactly. That's my point. I feel that Polanski is not exactly the perfect candidate to become the perfect believer in the perfect law within a perfect criminal system. Let's see... "Susan just opened up my wife's belly, killing her and my unborn baby and she is STILL decided to be kept alive AND eligible for parole AND allowed to get married..and divorced...and remarried and...and..? Well, so I'm flying...au revoir !"
  12. I saw her Giselle live in Havana years ago for...how much...?...like 5 bucks-(Cuban currency, translated to 0.25 cents of a dollar...great deal, ah...? )
  13. From "The Medieval Club of New York" website: Upcoming Event: Paul Moses, November 14 "Uncovering the Story of Saint Francis and the Sultan" Paul Moses Brooklyn College, The City University of New York Friday, November 14, 2008, 7:30 PM CUNY Graduate Center (365 Fifth Ave. @ 34th St.) Room 4406. Reception, with wine and cheese, follows. http://medievalclubofnewyork.blogspot.com/...ovember-14.html A little info on the author... http://www.brooklyn.cuny.edu/pub/Faculty_D....jsp?faculty=70 ...and the book. http://www.randomhouse.com/catalog/winfit....80385523707.jpg
  14. It is hard to define the fairness of certain outcomes within the criminal law system. Polanski is still prosecuted-(even if the alleged victim has decided not to keep proceeding with the ordeal)-and then, on the other side, we keep paying for Susan Atkins, Patricia Krenwinkel and Leslie Van Houten's living expenses...(oops, that's not true.. not Atkins anymore...she just died...may she-(... )- )
  15. Yeah, yeah, I know...rights and claims and holdings and determinations and copyrights and laws and authorizations and yes, The Powers That Be... Thank God I was able to repeatedly watch and enjoy Apollo, Theme and Variations and Waltz Academy in a time and place were such issues were largely and purposely ignored...
  16. After the shocking suspension of Ketinoa's account on Youtube due to the claiming of some very well known High Powers-(which has caused a tremendous reaction within the ballet community viewers)-now it is official. Paradiselost89, another GREAT resource for ballet clips, has also been suspended. The Powers that Be are very likely to have been involved in this action again. This situation is getting out of proportion. WHAT DO THIS PEOPLE WANT?!?!-(the Powers, I mean...) .
  17. Love proud parents... Congrats to your son atm!!!
  18. I'm glad you liked it. Actually, Miss Danilova was 55 here, as this is a sequence from the musical Oh, Captain! of 1958, and she was born in 1903-(know the date by heart...we share the same birthday!!...just a few years apart )
  19. This is one of the very few clips in existence of Danilova's dancing on Youtube. I find it very cute. Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TR6s79sdgUE
  20. How many times have I encountered different versions of how Nureyev was catalogued when he appeared in the West! It is a fact that he made his on/off stage audience think several things about him, and I'm positive that at many points he was probably considered vulgar-(himself, the person, his persona, his characters, his makeup, his way of treating some of his ballerinas, his verbal outbursts, his dancing...and yes, his obvious and very intended marked "curves" exposure onstage-(would have liked to use the appropriate term, but I'm sure this would be considered extremely vulgar here...) but again, and this is my own assessment...he was such an EXCITING dancer to look at that at the end it didn't matter if there were hundreds of other beautifully correct, quiet, classy dancers around who were never able to elicit the emotions that the raw Russian was able to... Just my two cents here...
  21. Nanarina...if a Cuban dancer doesn't get the screams and the whistling, he or she would be probably very worried and thinking..."OMG, am I being THAT boring...? No, do whatever you want in a Cuban theater BUT being quite-(unless you are disliking the dancer, and this mantra applies specially for Miss V ) Well, they ARE our own pop stars, Nanarina!!
