At my Summer Intensive last summer, a girl had a video of the Paris Opera Ballet School. It seemed rather old but I'm not sure. However, it was all in Japanese! I was wondering if anyone knows if it is available and the name of it. Thanks! ~*~Carmen~*~

I was looking through Paloma's web page and I noticed that it said that English Television (BBC-LWT Productions) made a documentary about Paloma in 1995. Has anyone seen it or know where I could get a copy/ view it? I'm guessing that the Performing Arts Library in NYC would be my best bet, but I was just wondering if it was ever made available to the public....thanks! ~*~Carmen~*~

GOT MY BROCHURE!! May 10th to July 3rd Full-lengths: Swan Lake Raymonda Romeo and Juliet Don Quixote Coppelia La Bayadere And they have two repertory programs--one Contemporary meets the Classic (Pillar of Fire and Within you without you), and the other is A Tribute to Balanchine (Theme and Variations, Tchaikovsky pdd, Mozartiana, Ballet Imperial). Looks like they're aiming to please everyone! p.s. Looks like they are casting Wiles and Hallberg in a number of principal parts--I especially notcied they are doing Swan Lake together. ~*~Carmen~*~

Murphy can't be taller than Stiefel, because I saw her do Don Q when she was a soloist, partnered by Angel Corrella, and I always saw Corrella as a "short" male dancer. She was only about and inch or two taller than him when she was en pointe. Maybe it's just my perception but I thought Stiefel was a considerable amount taller than Corrella. Please correct me if I'm wrong! And thanks for the brochure info--I'm anxiously awaiting its arrival! :party: ~*~Carmen~*~

After ABT and seeing this gorgeous dancer, I was just wondering if anyone had info on where she trained etc., since the ABT website bio doesn't say much ~*~Carmen~*~

Diversion of Angels was....interesting. I'm not much of a modern person, I more prefer ballet, but I think the company did a good job. Don't know if I cared for Wiles in this piece, but I thought Tuttle and Kajiya did well. They did have some issues with running into the wings though..... I must say that I, too, thought Fang was beautiful In Symphonic Variation B) The other people I went with noticed her as well. It's really amazing she's only an apprentice! Although I thought that Abrera looked much better this season than last season (La Bayadere; Gamzatti), technique-wise. I really liked Pillar of Fire. It's the first time I've seen it, so I have nothing to compare it with, but thought Amanda McKerrow was stunning. Her bleeding was very bad--it stained the dress she was wearing. But maybe the physical pain helped her to be more emotional? Purely theoretical of course. I thought that Raymonda was too cheesy--I think it should be more regal. And from where I was sitting (side orchestra), Dvorevenko's feet semed sickled a lot. Her head-waggling was kind of funny, I have to admit. The demi-soloist men were excellent, though, and very together. Roma, what did you mean when you said the variation was "doubled up"? ~*~Carmen~*~

Hey from New Jersey! We barely had any effects from Hurricane Isabel--windy, a bit of rain, and power outage for a couple hours in the middle of the night. However, we had a tornado on Tuesday! I was actually in school and far enough away from the tornado not to have to hide or anything, but a friend of mine's house was directly in the path and got pretty badly damaged, but no one was hurt. Her brother actually saw the funnel of the tornado. Pretty scary! We've had an earthquake, a hurricane, and a tornado within a month. So come on over to Jersey, y'all! ~*~Carmen~*~

I would LOVE to see Pas de Quatre (the Dolin version). And Graduation Ball would be pretty cool, too! :bouncing: ~*~Carmen~*~

I would imagine that most people that have seen ABT have seen Misty Copeland, as shes in the corps. :rolleyes: I don't particularly like her, her legs are VERY hyperextended and she needs to learn how to control that. Maybe once she gets that under control I can stop cringing in pain and actually absorb some of her dancing...! ~*~Carmen~*~

I've been looking in the Star-Ledger for reviews but haven't seen more than one or two. Where on the internet could I find many reviews for ABT? I find them interesting and I like many points of view. In particular I would like to read reviews from the 5/12 Bayadere with Corella/Cojocau, and also the 6/2 Don Quixote with Carreno/Herrera. First off, let me say that Paloma was GREAT! I really do believe that she is the best dancer in ABT right now. Her arms are so beautiful now--there's really no problem with them any more. She was excellent as Kitri; it's really *her* role. Her facial expressions were nice, but there were times when she would pucker her lips. Jose Maunel Carreno is HOT! Haha. He was totally on, and he seemed to work well with Paloma, which is a good thing since he partnered Susan Jaffe for such a long tme. They looked very comfortable dancing together. His "ice-skater" turns were beautiful. They didn't look like he was struggling. He looked totally in control, and that was great to see. The corps was only so-so. Often they are not in sync, and during the dream scene on the girl fell. I have to give her props, though-she got right back up, put a smile on, and kept dancing. Sandra Brown and Marcelo Gomes were perfect as Mercedes and Espada. Sandra came out and hit such a perfect balance in arabesque, it was beautiful. Marcelo is such a large dancer, in build and in character. The flower girls, Stella Aberea and Michelle Wiles, were very good when they were dancing by themselves but were slightly off when it came for them to dance together. It seemd as if Wiles was trying to hold the balances longer than Abrera, which made them be not in sync. Veronika Part was very good as Queen of the Dryads. She did not make it look like work--she was seemingly weightless. Maria Ricetto, as Amour, was adorable (for lack of a better description). In her variation she was fleeting and light, just how it should be. I didn't particularly like her facial expressions, however--they seemed too contrived and the was just too much mouth movement for me. Back to Paloma--Her turns are really amazing, as were the "Don Q" leaps. She was just absolutely beautiful as far as I'm concerned. Her balnces in the Grand Pas de Deux weren't the best I've seen her do, but still--they were good. In the fouette turns in the Coda, she finished with 4 of 5 turns. However, she definitely wasn't all tricks; she is definitely developing her artistry, and that was good to see. All in all, a very good performance! ~*~Carmen~*~
