  1. Stahl interviewed Jock Soto at the Guild Luncheon last year. It seemed odd how uninformed she was considering her status on the Board.
  2. drb- regarding your apparent dismay over the omission of an "After the Rain" question by the Charlie... A ten minute dance hardly seems significant when discussing a 20 yr career, I think. I thought it was a great interview. However, I suppose some people will always be disappointed when the subject of an interview is someone they "know" more so than Billy in Idaho for whom shows like this is for.
  3. Has NYCB released any info re: casting for the Denmark programme?
  4. Peeps: Union contracts, that's all. IF NYCB performs in the Sates, it must also travel with the orchestra... This is a burden that other compnaies don't have... Follow the trail
  5. I agree FarrellFan on what you said about Jock's maturity after Heather Watts One most remember the much misaligned and somewhat public relationship that Heather Watts and Peter Martins had for over 20 yrs. It has often been noted that Heather couldn't dance for the last 10 yrs of her career, and the only reason she was in the scene at all was because of Soto (Gottlieb, et al.) This of course is pityful, considering it cost Mr. Soto a great deal of artistic growth. I think Soto got pegged more as a partner because of the circumstances regarding a somewhat ailing Watts. And maybe, this made Soto an even greater partner.. Who is to know. But I appreciated the thread - as it mentioned Soto in a broader context of a great dancer, not just a great partner. The great ting about City ballet is that it shows people like Soto, with his great artistry, and not just show bunnie doing leaps and turns more suited to Cirque de Solei. -Adagio
  6. 4 curtain calls for Tala this afternoon. Go figure
  7. One only haas to look at Wheeldon's most memorable ballets: if it aint got that Jock, it aint good.
  8. In his May 12, 2005 article in The Observer, Gottlieb writes:"Isn’t it odd how good choreography helps a dancer look better?" Reminds me of The Men's Warehouse motto. However, in the collaborative spirit present in the rehearsal studio, a dancer DOES very well make a choreographer look better. This is why Jock Soto will be sadly missed. Not only for the roles he left behind, but for the ones he wasn't there to make better before they went out. And there are few left in the company that have this gift. There are reasons why fashion supermodels are in such high demand, they bring glamor, visibility, credibility, they make anything they wear look great, and most importantly, they inspire. Not only do we need choreoraphic talent, but superdancers to achieve this.
  9. Nyala - There are going to be huge parties thrown for these dancers after their performances. Parties that will include many of their fellow dancers who DONT have to work on Monday.
  10. I hope Woetzel is doing American in Paris. I've always had a blind spot for Mrs. Golbin, but I wouldn't mind her given a chance to do something significant. I saw Millepied's new work in Paris, and it was dissapointing. But I'm glad Mr. Martins is giving him exposure. As for the Martins piece - A thank you note to Jock for hauling Ms. Kistler all these years?????? I wonder
  11. TOP 3 Females: Kistler, Sylve, Ansanelli TOP 3 Males: Soto, Hubbe, la Cour
  12. I attended the Annual Guild Luncheon and thought it was the best thus far. It was moderated by Lesley Stahl, who also co-chaired the event. She interviewed Jock about his career and what he plans to do after his impending and GRACEFUL retirement (emphasis on graceful as a hint to others in the company.) Wendy Whelan, Alexandra Ansanneli, Amar Ramasar, and others were on hand to demo some of Jock's roles. He didn't really talk much about SAB. I would think he will continue to teach at the school. Rather, he said he wanted to open a restaurant with his boyfriend!! I hope Peter Martins convinces him to teach! Lunch of course followed. Everybody was there: Francesco Clemente, Debbie Harry, von Furstenburg, etc..
  13. I think Jock would be a GREAT TV Chef!!! But I think Peter Martins should have him run SAB and teach partnering classes for the company. God knows they need him.
