  10. Thank you for posting these, bart! I wish that Miami City Ballet would tour the West Coast, so that I can see these dancers in person, and not in the abstract. What a wonderful quote from Kent on Danilova.
  11. There has been no official news on Ansanelli's next plans, except to be part of the Wheeldon Ligeti performances tomorrow, Friday, and Saturday at Columbia University's Miller Theatre.
  12. I wonder if it also had to do with John McCormack, who insisted on singing entire selections of Irish songs in his recitals, to the derision of critics -- particularly British critics who were not happy about his forthright Irish nationalism -- but to the adulation of fans. I don't think anyone, though, accused Pavarotti of doing 'crossover' when he did entire sets of Italian art songs and Neopolitan songs in his early recitals. It was more during his 'Hey Jude' phase, particularly with the Three Tenors.

  17. On a related topic, I found this UPI article on the andante.com site: Sony BMG to 'Manufacture' a 'Classical Crossover Band' and the target age for the band members is 10-14.
  18. My favorite part of the bonus material on the Sylve/Sleeping Beauty DVD is where Peter Wright is coaching the corps, and he stops them and tells them that this is classical ballet and to stop doing arabesque penche.
  19. I'm buying! And I hope that a lot comes through Beijing so that you write about it.
  20. Thank you so much for your great review! It sounds like a wonderful set of performances, with many highlights and dancers to watch. I'm glad you noted the "excellent new Rumanian soloist Dragos Mihalcea." A friend of mine did several work stints in Romania over the course of a year, and he went to the ballet and opera often. His point of reference was the Metropolitan Opera and the the major ballet compnies in New York. He was very impressed with both the ballet and opera in Bucharest. The opera singers seem to have the first opportunities in the West, and I'm glad to see that the dancers aren't far behind.
