  13. PNB's "Points of View" program opens next Thursday, 16 March and features three ballets: "THE BRIDGE (Dmitri Shostakovich/Val Caniparoli) Returning to PNB, The Bridge is Val Caniparoli's moving portrayal of the tragic Bosnian War lovers known as the 'Romeo and Juliet of Sarajevo'. TIME AND OTHER MATTER — World Premiere! (David Lang/Dominique Dumais) The always-provocative French-Canadian choreographer Dominique Dumais (Scripted In the Body, 2000) returns with a compelling new work for PNB. LA VALSE (Maurice Ravel/George Balanchine) Balanchine's achingly beautiful portrait of societal decadence unveils a ballroom gone mad where a white-gowned heroine is irresistibly drawn to the uninvited figure of Death." http://www.pnb.org/season/pov.html Peter Boal's "Director's Notes" have been published to the site, and they are a fascinating read. Here's an excerpt: The new Dominique Dumais work has been named: it is Time and Other Matter, with music by David Lang. On the Other Minds site, his music is described as follows: He has an impressive list of commissions from orchestras around the world, and a formidable list of teachers who are squarely in the mid-late 20th century classical tradition: Jacob Druckman, Hans Werner Henze, and Martin Bresnick. I've never seen The Bridge, having been out of town on business during its first run. I'm looking forward to seeing that work and Dumais' for the first time next week.
  14. Yes. I expect that we'll be working to resolve the various upgrade issues over the next week or so, but this one is the most urgent.
  15. If you're trying to register, you may be experiencing an issue where you get an error message saying that your User Name and/or Display Name is already taken. In most cases, this is not the case. In addition, if there is already a user on the same computer, the screen may override what you type in with the earlier username. 19. Understood, but in case people post specific information to the site, I wanted to state site policy up front.
  20. Please note that all information from Ballet Talk that is used in articles on other sites must be attributed.
  21. That's an interesting note. Peter Boal, in post performance Q&A's, said that he put people together based on his own sense of who would match with whom, which has been quite different than the way Russell and Stowell tended to match partnerships. However, Boal was fully busy at NYCB and with his own company during the Russell/Stowell years, unlike Kain, who was involved with the company when Kudelka was Artistic Director and knows the dancers and their performances during that time. Since Kudelka cast his own and others' ballets, it's interesting to see Kain cast the mixed bills, and particularly the non-Kudelka ballets, with a different eye.
