The Denver Post reports that Opera Colorado has fallen $500,000 short in its 2012 fund-raising goals and has cut back from 3 programs/season to 2 for the next couple of years:

Opera Colorado General Director Greg Carpenter said the company fell short of its $2 million campaign goal by about $500,000. Contributions from individual donors began falling off during the recent election season and failed to recover by Dec. 31, a time of year when gifts typically increase from donors seeking tax deductions for charitable contributions.

I'm not a big opera fan, but this is disappointing after the very positive reports just a few days ago from Colorado Ballet.

Too bad. . The company claims they didn't see this coming. Times are still hard, of course.
