Ginny Kanter
Is anyone looking for a copy of the rare VHS Portrait of Giselle, in which Anton Dolin prepares Patricia McBride for the role of Giselle and then discusses the history of the ballet? There are also wonderful clips of past Giselles including Fracci, Markova, Makarova, and Spessivtzeva. The four copies available on Amazon range in price from $125 to $349.95, but it is currently available as a Buy It Now listing on eBay for $29.95 in an auction ending November 22. Free shipping to boot. If I didn't already have a copy, you can bet that this one would be gone! It's a remarkable film. Link to comment

richard53dog
Thank you so much for the heads up! I bought it. Oooh, I hope you enjoy it! I just love this film. Ginny mentioned the dancing clips by the famous past Giselles but there are also the wonderful interview clips which include Kasarvina, Chauvire(who wanders between French and English), and Ulanova Link to comment
EvilNinjaX
Thank you so much for the heads up! I bought it. Oooh, I hope you enjoy it! I just love this film. Ginny mentioned the dancing clips by the famous past Giselles but there are also the wonderful interview clips which include Kasarvina, Chauvire(who wanders between French and English), and Ulanova Yeah, it's a great one and one that's sadly missing from DVD. Although I've watched mine many times (well the ripped video as I've archived the original tape), if I watch a bit of it, I end up watching ALOT of it. I particularly love just the very beginning when Anton Dolin starts with, "I believe there is no ballet as perfect as Giselle. We still weep ..." -goro- Link to comment
Ginny Kanter
Thank you so much for the heads up! I bought it. Marga, I'm so glad this copy has gone to a good home! As Richard53dog rightly notes, the interviews are marvelous, too, including a touching one with Spessivtseva in her old age, at the institution where she lived after her breakdown. If only a DVD of this were possible! It's special in so many ways. Link to comment
Marga
I can't wait to see it! In addition to everything else about it, it features one of my favorite dancers of all time, Patty McBride. Thanks again. I will truly treasure it. Link to comment
