carbro
At a time when the sense of change is so palpable, I got this bittersweet notice from Ch. 13: You can start the new year off with the sound of music, Julie Andrews style in the 25th annual New Years Day Great Performances presentation of the Vienna Philharmonic. Andrews takes over from perennial host Walter Cronkite who will spend the holiday with his family. That’ll be on January 1st, 2009 right here on Thirteen. . . . Plus Great Performances will feature a new production of Cyrano de Bergerac as well as Salome and we’ll be featuring the 2nd Annual Met Opera New Year’s Eve Bash showing six encore broadcasts of operas from 2008’s Great Performances at the Met including Macbeth, Peter Grimes and Hansel and Gretel. Happy New Year to the Cronkite family. Link to comment
volcanohunter
The Great Performances web site doesn't say a great deal about the ballet component of the concert, only that the 'Blue Danube Waltz' will be performed by students of the Ballet School of the Vienna State Opera. http://www.pbs.org/wnet/gperf/episodes/fro...troduction/430/ Link to comment
FauxPas
The ballet dancers were not listed. However, I clearly recognized Vladimir Malakhov who led two waltz sequences. The other dancers were not identified nor who was responsible for the choreography (probably Malakhov as well). Link to comment
