agnes
I just got an e-newsletter from The Carpenter Center For The Perfoming Arts (Long Beach, CA) that this parody ballet company will perform on Feb 7-8 2008. Has anybody seen their past performances? I want to take my mom to see a ballet performance-turned-on-its-head for her birthday. http://www.trockadero.org/welcometolesball.html Link to comment
Hans
I have, and they are hysterically funny--definitely recommended! Link to comment
Mel Johnson
The Trocks may be the best place to learn Petipa, Ivanov, Coralli and Perrot compared to the way that most of these "revivals" are going these days. And the worst part about THAT is that they can't satirize the new garbage. It's already a parody. Link to comment
agnes
Then it's off to the ballet ( ) for my mom on her birthday. Definitely an unconventional method to initiate the uninitiated to the world of 'men in tights' . Thank you, Hans and Major Mel. Link to comment
artist
yes, 'men in tights' and tututs! Love the Trocks; too funny and actually quite good. Some of my favorites are Pas de Quatre and Dying Swan. I won't spoil it - but I know you'll love 'em too! Link to comment
agnes
Update: I just bought two tix for Feb 8, 8 pm "closing night". Thanks again to each of you for your glowing recommendations. I'll see if I can do a "critical review" of the ballerinas' form and technique. Link to comment
carbro
Great! We'll look forward to your reactions. Link to comment
cubanmiamiboy
Respectfully, it is true that "the Trocks": 1-Are technically super well trained... 2-Have a great knowledge of the classics... 3-Are generally consider a very entertaining act... BUT ...i guess because i do have an over romantized (perhaps over dramatic) overview of ballet as one of the most exquisite and sublime forms of art expresions, or an extremely serious overview of its stories of love, hate and death (including suicide) , or drag is not my favorite thing in the world, or my sense of humor is ...kind of "different" , i would say that they're not my favorites... hbl
Has anybody seen their past performances? I want to take my mom to see a ballet performance-turned-on-its-head for her birthday. Seen them many times - they are great. If they do the Swan Lake Pas de Quatre (4 "girls", linked arms, fast steps) you will never ever see that again (or hear the music) and not think of the trocks. agnes
Sounds like the Trocks will be indelibly stamped in my mind, far longer than even the Kirov! Link to comment
